Space Shuttle Discovery
Operator: NASA
Location: Kennedy Space Center, Florida (USA)
Timeframe: 1995-1999
Personal Interest:
This model represents the Space Shuttle Discovery. The 45th Weather Squadron provided launch weather support only at Transatlantic Abort Landing (TAL) sites, since launch weather was provided by the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. However, for many launches I provided meteorological support for safety during Space Shuttle assembly and pre-launch activities. Two memorable Discovery missions were STS-82 (1997) which repaired the Hubble Space Telescope, and STS-95 (1998) in which John Glenn returned to Space at age 77.
