Mig-23 Gate Guard at Technikmuseum Sinsheim

A former GDR Mig-23 as gate guard of the Technikmuseum Sinsheim. That´s what I am aiming at.

Taking a belated seat. So sad to hear about the kit. This just confirms that there is guide a bot of know-how that goes into a well-fitting kit. Looks like my Res-kit MiG may get it's moment in the sun yet… I have been to the Sinsheim and the nearby Speyer museum years ago. What a place!

Thank you Thomas.
progress is a bit slow as the last figure I bought needed a decent makeover due to casting imperfections. Same with the barrels I bought. Issues I weren't used to from.Balaton and White Storck Models.

Nice idea but diappointing for various reasons.
First, I usually paint the main camouflage and add details later. I assume that most modellers proceed in a similar way. But that's not how these masks work. Here it is required that the details the masks cover are painted first and then be covered for the main job. I tried to use the surroundings of the respective masks but they are so crammed on the sheet that this was pretty challenging.
Second issue I have with this set is that the cuts are not precice and the masks do not separate without resistance from the sheet. Tears and frays are the result. Due to the tiny nature of the masks some are quite difficult to trim afterwards.
My suggestions to Clearprop:
- assure clean cuts in the future
- redesign the set so that the outer borders can be used as masks. I am sure this will serve the majority of modellers better than the current design.
12 March, 14:20

Very nicely detailed set. Be careful where to cut the exhaust parts as you might be left without a rim to fit into the grove of the fuselage. Clearprop doesn't indicate that.

I really cherished the release of these figures. But as nice as the idea of early Bundeswehr soldiers is, as disappointing is the execution. Price is quite high, print is fine but the posture of neither driver nor co-driver fits onto the seats of the ICM Unimog - for which these figures are said to have been designed. To make them fit modifications at the seat (cushions) or the figures are mandatory. A real nuisance.

Beautiful addition to any IL-62 decal set. Brings a lot of life and realism to an airliner build.
Highly recommended.
16 January, 16:12

Nice kit. Fit is generally good with some areas needing additional attention. Fine engravings. Square antennae on top of the fuselage are missing.
Highly recommended.
16 January, 16:07

Nice set. Thin carrier film. Decals need only very short soaking time.
Room for improvements:
- Right side door decals do not match the engravings of the Zvezda kit. They have the right width but are much higher than the kits doors.
- The decals for the vertical stabilizer are too small and the GDR flag is printed a bit out of register. Alignment with the deicing area is not sufficient. Having the Interflug logo printed seperately in white would make painting the stab much easier, if one wishes to go down that road. The decal is intended to cover the whole stab, but the groove between rudder and stab is so deep, that no decal solvent can solve that. Two decals - one for the rudder and one for the stab might solve that.
- IMHO the registration letters for the fuselage are too big.
Still a nice set. Thanks BOA Decals for making them.
The only game in town and thus still highly recommended.

Very cool Michael! Got to love a well photographed Tornado.
By the way, isn't the ZA447 the famous "Mig Killer"?

Although it was argued that it wasn't a Mig-29 that this Tornado took out on the ground, but a Mirage, according to later analysis. Anyway. Mig eater definitely sounds better than Mirage eater. 😉
Thanks for the hint.

Happy that you like the stuff.
Yeah, Robert, this was a truly special occasion and I enjoyed it very much - not least because I worked with planes in my 'last' life.
The visit was even more remarkable as we've been there at the 11th of November. As you probably know this is the britisch Remembrance Day and we've been honored to participate in the military appelle to commemorate the sacrifices of british military personell.

I strive(d) to give an idea about the variety on display, particularly concerning lesser addressed fields and even stuff I am personally not so interested in, but which might be cherished by others.
Nice to receive a feedback that this is welcomed.

This is a beautiful kit cast in immaculate resin with nice photoetch parts.
Thank you Snake Models for this special one.
Below I list a few things that caught my attention during the build. Maybe it will make assembly of the model even more enjoyable for others.
Kit and instructions contain some mistakes, some omissions and some queer stuff.
- Parts 7d and 13c were missing in my kit
- the wheels (part 1) actually consist of three parts
- part 6D is already cast onto the engine
- part 23 actually consist of two parts
- the exact location of the PE parts in step A is unclear
- in step A you need three pieces of PE2. The fret gives you alltogether 8 pieces designated PE2. Point is only: two of them have different shapes. Those two resemble the ones in the drawing. Only that the drawing is wrong. You need three of the six with the short lever. Then it works.
- some PE parts are labeled "L" and "R" in the instructions. There is no corresponding lettering on the fret.
- two PE parts designated 43 have different dimensions.
- in step B four PE pieces are labeled PE25 although two have different shapes
- PE31 is not labeled on the fret
- right side gear. PE57 exists in two shapes.
- there are no designated positions for quite a lot of the PE discs, although I feel, they are needed.
- Part 61 is redundant.
For Decals No 5 (two different shapes under the same number), 8, 9 and 10 no locations are indicated in the instructions. Neither did I see any of them in my references on the real vehicle .

Welcome Villiers de Vos. I love the Unimog and will build this one pretty much out of the box. The ICM kit is really nice but should be build withe care as tolerances are tight and malalignments are punished down the road.

August 20, 2024

I am very disappointed by this product. Yes it is finer than the kit parts but it is far from clear. The suppose to be transparent areas are almost opaque and show heavy print lines. To achieve an improvement over the kits parts you will need to cut out the frame and put clear foil into it. This will be a major endeavour due the the fragility of the frame.
Not recommended.
