I was really astonished when I saw your kit.
I have one model from Frog Fokker D.XXI build 40 years ago and another to build
new in bag (waiting in my garage...).
But my model is a monster in a mirror with your wonderful Fokker D.XXI
You say "some corrections": I suppose a waterfall of corrections
The panels are completely reinscribed, antenna and fuselage details seems all
schracthbuild and the interior of cockpit shows the tubular structure
Absolutely perfect, including the camouflage, and position lights
Super work!

Thank you Luciano! It is far from the best kit out there but for one originally molded in 1963, is actually very good. The Frog kit is a better start point than the PM one, certainly.

Erick, what a beautiful job on this model.
I congratulate you on the quality of the base paint.
Congratulations!

Super! You did such a fantastic work with a truly old kit!
Super clean work, an amazing paint finish, no question, I like it!
👍 👍 👍

This is a beautiful model. where does the camouflage scheme from????
very interesting
10 April 2013, 20:14

I did the best I could on the camouflage from several different sources. The markings are from before the Munich Crisis, when the orange triangles were adopted. Here is one of the photos that inspired me: [img1]

You do nice work, Erik! It looks really top notch🙂 I have the Matchbox kit built up as well. I assume it is the Matchbox kit..

Looks great! Love the attention to detail - especially the stripes on the prop.

I've wondered for some time if a Fokker D.XXI or G1 kit existed. And this one looks great! 🙂
30 April 2013, 18:32

Wow, Erik, that is absolutely beautiful. I assumed at first glance it was the Special Hobby kit, but to achieve this result from the FROG kit is nothing short of spectacular. 👍

Putting a lot of effort in an old kit so that people (like me, too) take it for an up-to-date kit is probably the best reward there is 🙂

I have two MPM Fokker G-1 kits. They have shape issues but i don`t really care. They are so rare anyway that just having them in kit form is a feat in itself🙂 I also have the Rareplane kit (vacform) It is almost as thick as usual styrene and not at all reminiscent of a vac form kit. A combination of the two would not seem totally out of order. While i already built up the old matchbox kit, i also have the MPM D.XXI kit. I `m sorry to say i never did have any airlines kits.

You'll make a decal for the Fokker script on the tail, or are you going to paint it?
24 May 2013, 23:25

This is very nice! So clean, and the detail is great. Can I ask what you use for the 7.92mm guns in 1:72 - I have some 0.8mm brass tubing and was thinking it is maybe too large for this scale?
25 May 2013, 01:40

I second Robert R on the same question, also if I can ask how you go about finishing your navigation Lights they look superb
25 May 2013, 03:49

I used some Evergreen plastic rod for the gun barrels, lightly drilled the ends. I forget exactly which size, it was either 0.20 or 0.25 inch rod.
Eend, I was going to have Mike Grant print out new Fokker script decals for me, but then I came across a good original Frog decal sheet. It is currently in a window bleaching the little bit of yellowing they had out, and the scripts will go on after I get back from vacationing back in Colorado.

Greco, which of the navigation lights? All were made from heated sprue mashed through one of my scribing templates. The red and green wing tip lights I ended up painting with a little bit of color blending and a white highlight point (a dot), I couldn't find a clear red or green plastic that kept a strong enough color at that size. The clear/white nav lights on the top and bottom fuselage and the tail fin had their bases painted white prior to gluing them on.

Question: how did you do the "bulb" near the end of the antenna line above the tail - is it a blob of superglue?
17 August 2013, 05:46

Murad, it is a bulb of thick white glue. The post on the fin was made from a piece of brass, the main post from shaped plastic rod with a metal wire stiffener, and the antenna itself from elastic mending nylon.

MPM made one, Eend. I have been unable to acquire one at a reasonable price. 🙁 Fokker G-1 (MPM Production 72034, 1:72)
22 August 2013, 21:41

It's a shame there aren't more kits of it around. 🙁 it's in my humble opinion the best looking fighter built by Fokker.
24 August 2013, 08:37

It's really amazing what You brought out this old kit. I remember this kit in Novo boxing and see the level of details of Yours I hardly beleive this is the same kit! I have a MPM in 1:72 half built and a CA in 1:48 but after this I think make something else😉
2 February 2014, 16:32

Looking absolutely amazing! I wish my 1/72 planes will look like this one day. Masterly !
9 November 2014, 19:15

very nice job. do you know what colours you used? I have a fokker XXIII in my stash, but color indication is rather sketchy...
22 November 2014, 08:55

Did you build the framestructure visible in the cockpit from scratch ? Looks very authentic.
22 November 2014, 09:08

Hi Erik, looks great i like the color scheme. I have this Fokker, as MPM kit already built and it is a beautiful exotic one, you can see it in my album 😉
22 November 2014, 10:15

I had old Frog, now is on heaven....
But, Your model is awesome build.
22 November 2014, 12:16

Hanno, this in-progress album is here: Fokker D.XXI | Album by SmashedGlass (1:72)
Unfortunately, Bart, I don't remember exactly which colours I used. I believe the brown was Vallejo Model Air 71.043, the tan I think was a bottle of Model Master Acryl RLM 02, the green.............I do not recall at all, though I think it was also from Model Master.
23 November 2014, 00:39

That is so well done; it is hard to believe it is 1/72. The Fokker D.XXI is one of my favorite obscure aircraft. I have several in my stash, that I want to do in Finnish colors.
23 November 2014, 03:39

Thanks Erik, saw the Pictures ! I love what you did to that Cockpit, great !
23 November 2014, 20:01

Nothing outrageous, just clean, neat and tidy. Everything it should be. Take a bow my friend, well done . 🙂

Album info
Painted up and based, as No 215 at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, 1939. All markings masked and sprayed, still waiting for hand-made "Fokker" script to be added to rudder fin.
