I made the probe covers out of lead sheet. Not perfect, but not bad at all either.

That is one stunning '15 Donald, and it looks very similar to the huge 1/32 by Tamiya the way you have it set up. 🙂
Very nice indeed sir. 🙂

Thank you sir. This is why I was saying to do this one. The only after market you HAVE to get is seat belt. For some unknown reason, they didn't mold them into the seat, only the back rest.

Gary, it is! I am definitely getting another. At least one more. Just have to get bombs to add. That's the real drawback to this kit. Lack of weapons.
4 March 2016, 02:47

Well, I made the final improvements. I replaed the pitot gauge covers I made with much more accurate resin ones. And I got bombs! I used a great reference site to get a realistic load out on her. f-15e.info/joomla/ So no more tweaks on this baby. She is where I want her.

What a gem Donald. 👍 Everything about it says 'care and attention.'🙂
It's been a while, but so worth the wait mate. 🙂
SALUTE. 👍
10 May 2016, 07:00

Thanks guys. I dont know why, but I just got it in my head on this one that I was gonna make her as accurate and nice as I could. Not that I dont put good effort into every build. This one just spurred me further. Kind of how I am feeling about the Da Nang F-4.
Might have to do with the fact I absolutely adore 4s and 15s above all other planes. LOL

If I was a billionaire the three jets I'd want in my hangar would be the Harrier, the Mig29 and a Tomcat 🙂
10 May 2016, 07:38

All 3 great choices. I would have a Phantom an Eagle and F-86. The 86 is just fifties dead sexy.
10 May 2016, 08:03

3 classics 🙂
I'd have to go for two seat versions of course, if only for training purposes .....
(and scaring my friends of course 😄 )
For my vintage jet collection I would also go for a Sabre too, I've always liked the Skyhawk as well
but I would like a carbon fibre replica sport version of an Me262 with modern engines and equipment but with a cockpit styled from the original design 🙂
10 May 2016, 08:29

I just cant get into the WWII stuff even the jets. Though they ARE kind of neat.
Kerry, if I had to stick to that, it would be the 100, 104 and 105 hands down.
11 May 2016, 04:57

Donald, All the 'Centuru Series" were all jets, no WWII stuff. 🙂 Take a look at the link for all the info mate. (You'll love it. 🙂 )

Kerry, oh I know sir. The first statement was directed at Choppa. I should have clarified.
11 May 2016, 16:13

I think every era has it's charms 🙂
But I think I would feel safer in a modern carbon fibre replica than the original aircraft😉
I do think the Me 262 got a few things right despite it's engine limitations though,
it did kind of set the standard for layout aside from engine positions of course,
but bubble top (near enough), tricycle under carriage, swept wing, pointy fuselage (ish) etc.
WW2 is a fascinating era in terms of tech advancements though, anyhow waffle waffle 😄

The Me 262 Project is a company formed to build flyable reproductions of the Messerschmitt Me 262, the world's first operational jet fighter. The project was started with the Texas Airplane Factory and administered by Classic Fighter Industries. It is based at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, United States, near Seattle. The project team of designers, engineers and technicians recently[when?] completed the flight test program and delivery of the first of five jets.
The aircraft are powered by General Electric CJ610 turbojet engines, concealed inside detailed reproductions of the original Junkers Jumo 004B engines and nacelles. This info is from Wikipedia. I have seen video of these aircraft on u-tube. Youtube Video Gary

Choppa, there Ya go!.once you start selling those awesome designs of yours and you are rolling in the money, you can get one. 😄
11 May 2016, 19:47

Mr DD, All is good mate. 🙂
And, the 262 Jumo engines suffered badly, mainly because of the lack of understanding of metallurgy. (the branch of science and technology concerned with the properties of metals and their production and purification.) 👍
11 May 2016, 19:53

haha Donald we shall see shan't we 😄
I'd be just as happy with an Sbach 342 or similar, probably a bit cheaper too 😉
Kerry, I remember reading that the blades had to be changed out every 25 hours of engine run time,
which is a lot of heavy maintenance if you ask me .... you would not want replica engines 😄
If I could have "only" plane it would probably be this beast 😄

Choppa, It will take a bit of reading through the Wikkipedia blurb here, but it will be a lot better than me trying to explain it mate, so, for your viewing pleasure.................google.com.au/url?sa..MPgfFrRxX-b-AxKXsEuA

It was scarcity of Chromium and Nickel that made the engines fail. Germans knew that the blades needed this important element but the allies had the mines locked up in their possession. To get those engines to work with the inferior metal alloys that they had to use, is a credit to German engineering.
11 May 2016, 21:59

yeah, there really is no doubting the abundant genius of German engineers and designers of WW2 🙂
11 May 2016, 22:33

So it was indeed more of a materials issue. The design was solid and sounds as if built with the correct materials, would be a totally viable engine.
12 May 2016, 03:37

Americans based their turbojet designs on the Jumo 004, even when we were tinkering with the Whittle design of the Brits
12 May 2016, 13:34

To be honest, that was an accident that I liked. When I was weathering it, I managed to rub some of the paint off. I liked how it looked so I did a bit more on purpose. Gives it a bit of wear that is not over the top.
13 May 2016, 19:26

OK, so this one also needed new and better pics. I fixed the paint on the nose a while ago. These pics are a LOT better.
6 April 2019, 03:23

A bird of prey, in all her glory. 🙂
Champion effort Donald, especially the exhaust covers and 'remove before flight' tags. 👍
6 April 2019, 03:53

Thank you sir! I have to stop myself from fiddling with it more. Though if I manage to end up with an extra canopy along the way, I will replace it. I didnt do a great job on this one.
6 April 2019, 04:08

I have the same twitch mate. 😉
Fiddling is what I do best, much of the time, repairing my last fiddle. hehehehe 🙂 👍
6 April 2019, 05:49

I do it with almost everything I build. I look at it and I am like Oh, I can do this or this....
6 April 2019, 12:34

Hey, I have managed to be good for over a year now and do nothing to it. LOL
8 April 2019, 00:12

I keep looking at that new decal sheet I found and my "Bone" thinking "you can make it better" but I am fighting hard not to mess with it other than the EL on the tail. Cause knowing my luck I would muck it up, and my wife is NOT going to let me spend 200.00 dollars for a new kit and all the goodies. LOL.
9 April 2019, 01:30

LOL Yeah, that would be an expensive screw up. BUT, we are only talking about replacing decals after all...
9 April 2019, 03:03

Smart move to use bottle caps as exhaust covers!
I am going to use that on my next build, provided I find a bottle big enough for 1:32 scale items.
😉
10 April 2021, 09:32

Clifford, thank you sir. I fell short of the effect I was trying to get, but I do still like it. 🙂
11 April 2021, 02:56

Thank you gentlemen. I am feeling the need to do another E here soon...
11 April 2021, 23:11
Album info
Incredible kit, great build!
