Tried the detachable armaments with the mini-magnets that I saw in a youtube video. The later Corsairs lost their central mounting tank and drop tanks moved to the wings.

Thanks Moreno, in the end I went with the recommended Italeri paints, flat non-specular versions of their intermediate blue and sea blue.
