A20-719 / VH-WRX as a Thin Red Line Dauntless

Prior to its untimely crash in May 1999, A20-719 starred in the movie "The Thin Red Line" in the role of a Douglas Dauntless. Since the Special Hobby kit has so many dimensional issues, it makes sense to use it as the basis for a Wirraway which is not supposed to look like a Wirraway!

A20-719 was fitted with diamond tread tyres, so these will be taken from the ResKit P-51 wheel set. I'll need to fabricate the large air cleaner fitted under the engine cowl, since the Special Hobby kit depicts a CA-9 (Mk II) aircraft and A20-719 is a CA-16 (Mk III) model.

Well Michael I've actually had several of these kits sitting in my stash for a long time, while I tried to figure out how I can save them from their faults... then I realised that A20-719 in its starring role as a Dauntless didn't need to look like a Wirraway! So I dragged one of the kits out and started work!

This is taking a long time... most of my builds do! At least there was some small progress when I purchased some SMS Intermediate Blue paint at Model Expo last weekend... just a small step in the right direction!
