I'm working on two TV documentaries: the first is about Australia's first and only Field Marshal, Sir Thomas Albert Blamey; and then General Douglas MacArthur. I'm particularly interested in the aircraft
and any form of transport used by these wartime leaders.
Then, General Tom Blamey used a Lockheed C-60 Lodestar for most of the war, to get around Australia, when he was here and, for the second half of the war MacArthur arranged for a B-24 Liberator for him as he needed to cover longer distances a lot faster in an aircraft that had some armed protection.
MacArthur flew in, mainly new, B-17s He was known to send aircraft back if they arrived and he didn't think they were 'new enough'.
All his personal aircraft were, ironically, called 'Baatan' mostly remembered, then and now, for a 'death march' of US and Allied POWS.
I would really appreciate any photographs, diagrams, model details of any OTHER aircraft, staff cars, Jeeps or even trucks used by Blamey or MacArthur.
