While waiting for some 3D-prints I worked on a little side project, again based on a kit by Ukrainian company Mikro Mir. The boat is the first somewhat successful German try to build a military sub. Ordered by the Company Krupp, the "Forelle" was built in 1902 by Howaldtswerft Kiel and successfully tested and later inspected by Kaiser Wilhelm II and the Prinz von Preußen. The German Navy didn't take the boat but instead ordered the U1. So the boat was sold in 1904 to the Russian Navy and scraped in 1910 after an accident.

The boat itself was a midget submarine with a max diameter of the pressure hull of 1,66 meters, electric motor, air renewal and peat batteries (that didn't work well). Torpedos were stored in two containers left and right and expelled using compressed air. The superstructure was made of wood and the tiny conning tower housed a short Zeiss periscope.
