I'm a jack of all trades and master of none. Besides modelling I like photography ( flickr.com/photos/gorbygould/ ), photo editing (I use Gimp not Photoshop), carpentry, music (listening not playing) and I generally have a fascination with the world and world history.
I am now retired (early retirement, yaaa!) after working in computery stuff.

Perhaps I'm doing this mid-life crisis thing wrong, but in January 2015, after a 37 year abstinence, I decide that I would like to try model making again. When I was a scale model of my current self, I loved making models, it accounted for most of my free time and most of my pocket money. But that was back in the 70's when, here in Britain, the hobby was dominated by just one manufacturer – Airfix, and as far as scale was concerned, pretty much the only game in town was 1/72 (with a very light sprinkle of 1/24).
I have a bit of an aircraft obsession, I started building 1/48 military aircraft. as I was mainly interested in second world war aircraft (with a slight Luftwaffe leaning) and post war first generation jets. For various reasons I now model other types of vehicle in a variety of scales - both from kits and scratch-built.
At the start I was amazed at the difference between modelling in the 1970's to what it has now become, but I'm trying to get into the swing of things and trying something new with every kit I do. Live and Learn.
I'm not obsessed with models being a totally accurate miniature of the real thing. I know that my models are more likely to end up in land-fill rather than a museum, I just want to enjoy building them. I like kits with a lot of detail and marvel at the end result of the obsessives, but it isn't for me agonising over every panel line or misplaced rivet. But each to their own.
