A Yak-1B from the excellent Arma company is another project in the offing. Hopefully it will be as good as others I have built. 🙂

Following.I got the old ZTS kit in my stash and think about replacing it with this one. So I'm really looking forward to your report to see how the Yak from Arma builds.

Finally made a start on the Yak 1. The cockpit and internals have now been put together. So far, so good! 🙂
Welcome along for the ride Nicolas. From previous builds, the Arma kits are great, let's hope this one is as good as others I have built! 👍

Taking a seat here! @Nicolas - I remember assembling ZTS Yak-1 when I was a kid (it means: > 35 years ago) and I suppose they use the same moulds still...enough said I think 😉

@ Robert: I got the 1981 boxing, so the kit is 6 years older than I am.
@ Guy. 👍

This looks like a super nice kit, that cockpit is amazing! I will definitely be watching this!

Top of aircraft initially painted using Hataka Temporary white which didn't go on well at all. Despite thinning the paint I had issues with it drying the nozzle and then spitting. I finally used Vallejo Model Air insignia white. For the bottom, I used Vallejo Model Air AMT-7 blue. 🙂
Thanks for the comments Djordje & Thomas. It is indeed a lovely kit. I'm not happy with the top of the fuselage but that is my error(s).

The Yak 1b is complete. Decals, varnishes, weathering etc all done. 🙂
The aircraft denoted was flown by Lt Marcel Albert.
Marcel Albert was a French WW2 fighter ace who flew for the French Air Force, Vichy Air Force, Free French Air Force, Royal Air Force & the Soviet Air Force.
With the Vichy Air Force, he flew from Algeria and on 14 Oct 1940, he and two other pilots defected to the British. With the RAF he flew 47 missions with 340 squadron.
In late 1942, he joined the Normandie fighter group flying for the Soviet Air Force. He flew Yak 1s and later Yak 9s and Yak 3s. He scored 23 victories (including 15 shared) in 262 missions making him the second highest French Ace during WW2. In Nov 1944, he was awarded the Gold Star and title "Hero of the Soviet Union".
Post War, Marcel was a test pilot and in 1948 he moved to the US. He passed away in 2010 at the age of 92.
