France, June 1940. The relentless advance of German forces has left behind countless French machines and soldiers, isolated and without resources. In this diorama, a Renault UE Chenillette, out of fuel, waits in the tall grass, forgotten by the course of the war. Its driver, resigned, looks at a stork that silently observes everything that happens, representing nature's indifference to human conflict. While armies march and battles rage, the natural world continues its course, unchanging, oblivious to the fate of men.
