Revell Spitfire Vb

I have never done a 'panel wash' before, but saw someone using a pencil to highlight panel detail. Bought the fine tip sharpie at Wal-Mart this afternoon to try something similar.

Outlined some panels on the left wing with the sharpie, looked a little TOO extreme, so using a q-tip, I tried to reduce the effect.

Result isn't too bad.

Using a Prismacolor Silver pencil, I tried to simulate some paint chipping. The aircraft was lost in combat action within a month of delivery, so using the `less is more` approach, I didn`t attempt too much....

I heard some bad things about sharpie bleeding in the paint. I have never experience it myself though I hope you don't get any problems with it later

No bleed-through that I can see. All three given a coat of clear.

Hello Gordon! Nice Spittys you have there! How do you like the kits? I´m thinking about getting me 1-2 of them. Do you use your paint straight from the bottle or do you thinn it first?

Hey Holger, the kit is very good, but Airfix got the better shapes.
But Revell is easier to build.

To be honest, I was not that impressed with the fit. I used quite a bit of filler on the fuselage, wing-to-fuselage, wingtips. I think the Airfix Vb is a better kit.

I heard that the win area needs some putty.
I've build one of the first mould spitfire kits, it was exellent.
Seems like the moulds are not so good anymore.

Well Airfix has positive Panellines.
And not a real cockpit you should buy both and do a kitbash.

I used the Revell cockpit as a template and scratch built one for my Airfix....

Revell has kind of gone to pot since they starting molding their kits in China,and they keep discontinuing kits faster than you can get them.I have one 1/48 B-1B and was going to get another,but when I went to order it,it was discontinued,along with a bunch of other ones.Makes me mad.

Revell kits are made in a variety of places. I just bought the new releases of the Revell 1:72 F-89 and F-101, and they have bold print "Made in the European Union." Poland to be exact, and they've been doing this for some time. I built this Spitfire Vb recently and it was made in Poland as well. Mine fit quite nicely. The Revell re-boxes of Italeri kits are molded in Italy - but these are all Revell of Germany releases. Are you thinking of Revell USA perhaps?

They look good to me. I haven't tried the sharpie method. I usually use a very sharp #2 pencil especially on aircraft with raised panel lines, and use an oil wash for control surfaces. The spits look really good.

Very nice. Bill I think the New Revell kits are Excellent, especially their New 1/32 ones. I have been buying a lot of the old Monogram kits and am quite pleased with those.
