Welcome on board Katya! Good luck and have fun! The start looks promising already!

Thanks! Have had to wait to paint it until I have some masking tape (or at least some that is bigger than the Tamiya stuff I have atm)
I did work out how big a 1/48 would be after I was astonished at the size of even this 1/72 one, I believe it came in at around 45cm long.

Sounds about right, my F 15E is about that long too, i build all my aircraft in 1 48, except commercial airliners. Revell also has a SU 50 that I found interesting.

Nowadays most of mine are 1/48 too, but this was the first modern aircraft I have done, and wasn't available in 1/48, so I have made do with 1/72. 🙂

Tried to paint the white bits... spray paint went all runny, and I managed to drop it, so had to stick it back together. :'(

Hey these things are sent to try us, dont panic I have lost count of the number I have dropped over the years
22 October 2018, 17:30

And they DO try us, but here, we all get a little help from our friends! Just ask and we're there, we've all been through it! Welcome aboard to Scalenuts! Opps I mean mates! LOL

I had a look to see what the "damage" was, mostly the white paint didn't work, but it is mostly unharmed over than a bit that ran into panel lines. I guess I will try and clean that out, they spray model black and try to *shudder* paint the white by hand...

What type of paint did you use? There might be a way of stripping the paint with no harm to the model.

Looking good so far Comrade ! Btw ,,, that red with white flowers blouse is your modelling apparel ? 😉 just jocking ..... Good work ! Keep on !

It was a spray can of Humbrol White Acrylic I used.
And I happen rather to like this blouse.

I don't know if we have any, but I will check. I can't do any respraying at the moment anyway, it's far too windy.
Oh, are you sure lighter fluid won't damage the model?
23 October 2018, 09:33

If you use it on a cloth / kitchen roll will be fine. I've used it for years for this and have never had issue
23 October 2018, 10:19

Ok, might give that a try. Black spray has worked much better than the white. 🙂

Looks good so far Katya. Practice makes perfect when it comes to modeling.
As for your favorite blouse, I agree with you. I have an old kitchen apron I wear to help keep spills and sanding dust off my clothes.
23 October 2018, 12:14

You'll fine lighter colours are buggers compared to dark
Yellows and reds too
23 October 2018, 12:21

It is, but only if you can get an even coat. I usually build up thin coats to get the white base consistant, then same with yellow / orange. Sometimes using an off white is better but thats very much depending on personal preference.
23 October 2018, 13:35

Bare in mind, i use brushes for all my work (couple of experiments excluded) so so what works for me may not be best for airbrush 🙂

It's my next model after this one.

Mr. Muscle oven cleaner does wonders as well but than you have to watch out to not get any of it in the cockpit area.
