There could be no rivets on the wing of the P-51, the wing was carefully plastered and painted.
There were also very few lines, much less than yours.
You need to study the design of this aircraft better.

Thanks for your tip, but don't worry, the rivets have already been sanded over and will hardly be recognizable later. I know the rivets are there (see picture no. 11), so I added them. I like textured surfaces and weathering on the model better than factory-fresh machines, even if it's not always historically accurate.

Some can make rivets on the surface covered with canvas, you are probably one of them. Figure 11 says nothing, I showed the photos.

Why do you have to be insulting right away? Please remain objective. Let everyone build the way they want. I don't like the crap you build either.

I agree, I got a little overreacted.
But there were definitely no rivets there.

Creative solution with the light in the wing, hope it works out. And I agree with your choice to choose for what works for your model instead of pure historical accuracy.

A museum exhibit, heavily renovated, it doesn't count
And you have a specific prototype declared ,P-51B Mustang 336 FS, 4 FG Missouri Mauler (September 1944).
If it were some kind of collective image of the P-51. it would be more difficult for me to argue.

It's actually quite simple. You are both right. The rivets are there, otherwise the wing would not hold together. However, they are not visible on new airplanes because, with the exception of the access flaps, about 60% of the front of the wing has been filled and painted. On older airplanes, slight sink marks and cracks can occur around the rivets and at sheet metal joints due to the greater material thickness of the filler as a result of shrinkage of the filler during residual hardening (keyword ghostseams). These filler accumulations also tend to flake off during flight maneuvers with high G-forces as the material underneath works. For an older Mustang, the most realistic look would probably be a fillerized appearance with partially Panel lines and rivets. But I am of the opinion that everyone should build their model the way they like it. After all, it's a hobby.

Not everything is so simple, the P-51 did not fly with peeling wings. There is an instruction for technicians to immediately restore the wing cover if it is broken.

Welcome on board everybody. So I think we should stop "counting rivets" now. 😉 I learned something about the P51, so there is something good about it.
And I just noticed that Revell apparently put the wrong canopy into the box of my kit. I have the birdcage canopy but this Missouri Mauler version did not have that kind of canopy. Really strange. So this airplane will no longer be historically accurate anyway.

You have produced a good build so far Chris. Couple of adages, if it looks like a duck, quack's like a duck. . . . It's a duck! My hobby, my build if you're unhappy with that follow some other build. 👍🥸🤘🥸🤟

Thanks Mark. Even if it is not historically accurate you can still make a nice airplane out of it. At least I'll try.

The decals are very thin, which is easy to work with. However, the black and white transitions showed through on the emblem. I had to do some careful touching up with magnifying glasses and a brush.

So I am done now and took the first final pictures. Still not happy with the canopy but with that wrong part from Revell I was not able to make it much better.

Looks very good in NMF. You prompted me to start mine 🙂
I have better fitting canopy, but it should be Malcolm hood for the provided camo, the fact ignored by Revell completely 😄
