I use vallejo air. On the underside it´s gull grey mottling with some parts in yellow brown and german grey preshades. On the upper side i used US blue grey with US interior yellow and again preshades in german grey.

Thank you Vincent! Fitting is not a problem on this kit, however it took me some time to find out how the floats are fitted to the fuselage. The instructions make you guess. I´m not sure about the decals tough. They look odd and rough. And the painting options Hobby Boss provides seem to be contradicting to the few pictures i found. So i think you can call it a what-if plane. 🙂

Thanks! The decals turned out fine actually. Treating them with vallejo decal fix and decal medium smoothed the rough spots out. They are very thin, and luckily hobby boss provided more big roundels than needed, because two of them ripped. Today i nearly finished the oil-wash, only the wings undersides are still missing out.

Thanks alot, your comments mean so much to me. Especially now, that i have to motivate myself to paint the wheels and the rotor blades. Something that i really hate doing. I´m also thinking about possible exhaust stains. The extensive stains on the box-art seem wrong to me.

Really nice work David.
The stains are not so wrong at all.
Maybe in a different color - more white/grey as you can see here:
worldwarphotos.info/..ines-8-january-1945/
But I dont think that the prototype ever had such extenisve stains.

Thanks Sören and Gerald. I might go with this one: worldwarphotos.info/../f4f-3-wildcat-f-22/ since it´s an f4f-3 like the wildcatfish and not that extensive as you said.

Great job 👍 I really like the look of the wildcatfish, so bulky and wierd :-D Hopefully I'll start on mine very soon!

Thank you very much! The bulky look really is something special... the plane is nearly a square. I think about getting a Rufe kit and put it right next to the catfish. Just by looking at the frame, you can see which one was faster. 🙂

@Vincent Heemskerk Since you asked for fitting problems some time ago... Assembling the floats is a bit difficult, since there are pins to fit them to the wings, however there are no pins for assembly to the fuselage and you have to apply some constant pressure to make them stay in the right place. Best to plan the step out ahead.

Very nice paint job David. Going to try and black base the FM-2 I am building. Have a grey/insignia white scheme. Perfect for blacks basing.

Hey Dan, thanks for the kind words. I really look forward to your fm-2! 🙂

Thanks Vincent! Finished the wheel mounts today, now they need an oil wash and after some minor assembly and a matt coat i should be done soon.

Loving this, real inspiration I am just cleaning parts on mine. Lots of flash.

Antenna cables best done with EZ Line. Not cheap but really looks the business!
