Erik LeijdensCool project Mike. But be ware of the mistake Hobbyboss made, just like the Me-262B1a from Dragon they just added some decals for a 2seater in the box of a nightfighter 262. The cockpit lacks dual controls, not very ideal for a trainer 😉

David ThorI build their wildcatfish some time ago and liked it alot. The price of their 262 range makes me want to buy several of them, but so far i can hold myself back. 😉

Mike Daniels АвторAbsolutely David. They are such good value for money. I am still pretty much a beginner really and I am mainly doing this model to improve my painting skills so wanted something inexpensive to muck about on. I have seen some superb airbrushed results, check this out;

I hope to get somewhere near that with brushes alone. I am not sure that I will though. Not attempted this type of camo before.

David ThorNow that's a beauty. I didn't know you use brushes only. Will be hard to get the mottling right... maybe a round tip brush that you cut back, so you can use it like a stencil?

JensHave fun with the model, it is a hobby boss to build well, but unfortunately for the school version is not 100% perfect, everything remembers the Trimaster Kit and also the cockpit is a mixture of night hunting and school version, but if you look at your models , then this will only be a game for you 🙂 🙂 🙂

Mike Daniels АвторHi Mike and Jens. I am not too worried about 100% historical accuracy for this build. I will leave that for a future date when I have the skills (and the money) to do it justice. Also its pretty difficult to be 100% accurate unless you have the actual aircraft standing in front of you. Finding sources/references is key. Are Trimaster still in business Jens?

Jensclear but 100% is ilusion, but with the version of Hobby Boss, the mixture in the cockpit is the same as in the Trimaster Kit, half school version / half night hunter, some reworking for every variant: D, but that makes the hobby so nice 🙂

Mike Daniels АвторConfusion #1. I wonder if anybody knows why a metal version of Part M1 is also supplied in the kit ? The instructions make no mention and the only reason I can think of is to add weight as a counter balance. Also the metal part has large tooling marks which might cause problems later on.

Mike Daniels АвторConfusion #2. As a little aside I am curious as to the extent that HobbyBoss have gone to make sure that the swastika/gammadion is not shown. They have even chopped up the decals (see Pic3). Is it a banned image in China ? and is that because of its Buddhist rather than its Nazi connections?

David ThorIt´s for the european market. They would actually commit a crime, if they sold swastika decals in germany and some other countries. Using them on models can also cost you alot of money at least in germany.

JensHello Mike, the metal is designed as a weight, hobby boss has since learned at Tamiya 🙂
The metal does not worry, however, the ejectors are no longer visible
Hakenkreuze are prohibited only in Germany, a dictatorship of fools forbids sign of the story for fear of enlightenment and questions at the time

Jens§ 86 and 86a was devised by the SPD and the CDU and the FDP have made it into the law. Merkel does not only ruin hobbies, it also destroys entire cultures ....., but we leave politics, the hobby also makes without hakenkreuze Fun, my planes have the crosses, only I have to hide them when I publish on .de pages
sorry with the trimaster I had to look, the re-edition of Italeri comes from the forms of the Trimaster models, but then with less etches, the Trimaster itself is only a collector's item

David Thor@Jens Parts of your statements are actually not correct. It's not only forbidden in Germany but also in France and Austria for example. And in Germany you can paint your entire models with swastikas and even your room. Just as long, as you don`t display them in public. It's fine, if you publish them within scientific works, like history books. So the idea, that it's forbidden to hinder historic interest is a bit... far fetched at least. But let's leave politics and the law out of this thread. Cheers. 😉

David ThorI guess they just leave them out for the european market. The cockpit detail looks nice. Not sure about the decals tough.

Mike Daniels АвторOpted for the HobbyBoss decals in the end. A bit bright in places (rarely see white in a cockpit) but overall i am pleased with the result.

Mike Daniels АвторHi David. Yes that worked out pretty well in the end. The decals took a bit of working in but they were tough and took quite a lot of abuse.

SpanjaardAs others have said before, the metal piece is certainly to avoid a tail sitter (typical with Me-262 models). About the swastiKas, well, they go around the German law by cutting them in two pieces. they can sell them like that even in Germany, since technically, there is no swastika in the sheet. And you can have your model with swastikas if you like just by joining them together. Of course, you can not take the model to German contest, unless you cover the tail with a piece of cloth or something.... which i am sure quite a few people have done before.

Alistair GrahamLooks fine to me Mike well done. I have fancied one in this scale for years, but was not sure what was the best quality/accuracy model available. Ive only done an armoured car from this manufacturer which was nice to build.

Mike Daniels АвторHi David. I was fairly happy with the mottling end result. You just cannot create the smoothness of airbrushing using brushes - but this sort of worked for me as a substitute.

David ThorHey Mike. Your substitute works great and i think it's a style of it's own. It makes me wonder about doing a model and brush paint it to look like a 3D version of the kits box art.
