Brought this one out from the "On Hold" pile. Cockpit is almost completed. Did some cleanup and gap filling. Also added etch to all the landing gear parts.

Did some priming of completed parts & Future on the canopy (which really needed it!). Also completed and primed the external fuel tanks. Hopefully today I can attach the canopy and get started with painting.

Primed the main fuselage and attached the canopy. Just realized I'm out of Dark Sea Grey so that'll need to be ordered since it's the main color!

Just attempted to use the Eduard mask for the canopy on this one. Completely useless! The masks didn't even stick at all. Before I could move to the next piece the previous one was falling off. First time that's happened. I guess I'll go back to the old reliable Mr. Masking Sol.

Interesting, my Ed-mask held perfectly, not a speckle of dusting or anything... But it was a yellow one, maybe this was just some old set? In any case, a Vampire is a great choice 🙂 Got an unfinished Sea vixen by chnce?
27 May 2019, 22:24

It must have been an old set. I've never had one not stick like that.
Oh I REALLY want one of those Sea Vixens, I've just got some other projects I'm working on right now. I'll get around to buying one eventually.

Pre-shading complete. Drove all morning to get the paint I was out of, so hopefully later this evening I can start doing that color.
28 May 2019, 19:49

Color 2 applied. Now its time to mask the nose. It was apparently a lighter grey.

Thanks Chris! Its an old 90s kit I had in the stash half-done. I decided it needed to be finished!
29 May 2019, 22:51

Neat project Nathan, I built that kit last year, really enjoyed it. It is an unusal aircraft. I want to get the Trumpeter one.

Yours looks great Clifford. You should add the kit to the inventory on your project so it shows up when searching for this kit. Go ahead and show off a little!

Man the decals are a giving me serious trouble. I'm using the Xtradecal set and they are VERY fragile. I've already destroyed one roundel and the unit color bar. I'm now going to have to do another plane from the sheet instead of the one on my project picture 🙁
31 May 2019, 23:26

That stinks. Are they the kit decals or an aftermarket set?. I do not remember having any problems with mine. But I used the kit decals.
31 May 2019, 23:29

It was an aftermarket set. Guess I should have used the kit decals... oh well, the set does have extra roundels at least. Just starting over...

That was the first decal, it was A-OK. The rest were a serious PITA. I ended up having to use the kit roundels on the booms as the Xtradecal ones were way too large. Still working on them...
2 June 2019, 21:40

The rest went down ok. I almost lost my mojo after having to change the markings due to the one ruined decal. I'm in the process of weathering it now using your kit as inspiration. Also going REALLY slow on the etch vanes at the intake mouths.

Yea I bet they are fun. I am flattered that you would use mine as a reference. I think I am going to have to get the Trumpeter MK V and MK IX I think it is. Watching your build has made me want more of them,
4 June 2019, 00:20

It is a very interesting layout. By far the Mk.1 I did is my favorite Vampire variant. The Venoms are nice too.
4 June 2019, 00:24

Added a pic of the clear parts I made for the wingtip navigation lights.
4 June 2019, 22:40

Thanks Clifford. Should be completed sometime tomorrow, or maybe tonight depending on how long I stay up.

All done. Pictures of the completed model can be found here:
