Another ghost build than ended up being a dual build with the HC-97G project Boeing HC-97G Search & Rescue | Album by Plastic Addict (1:144)
I think I'll use this kit to test the AK Xtreme metal paint on since the wings and lower fuselage are natural metal.
23 September 2019, 15:46

Engines attached to the wings. Added a pic.
Thanks Roland! As a builder I was always afraid of gloss finishes and natural metal. I'm trying several smaller projects to hone these skills so that I can finally conquer some of the larger projects in the stash. 🙂

Since I'm building this in tandem with my HC-97G build, I did the same boxing in of the wheel wells with Aves Apoxie Sculpt.

Looks like a lot of serious work Nathan 🙂 but it looks good to me 👍
23 October 2019, 17:24

Well I'm sold on the AK Extreme Metal paints! That stuff went on easy peasy 🙂
27 October 2019, 17:42

Painted the vertical stabilizer with Polly-Scale Japan Deep Yellow. It is a perfect match for the fuselage stripe decal.

Another C-97. Totally in. And yeah, the AK stuff IS damn nice.
31 October 2019, 23:10

Thanks Greg & Donald!
Its now mega masking time to get the gloss white paint on the fuselage.
1 November 2019, 16:49

The gloss white has been applied using Tamiya X-2. Now to just leave this one alone until it dries.
3 November 2019, 16:38

Started decals on this build while waiting on some of the larger decals on the HC-97G build.
4 November 2019, 16:31

Added a new pic. All that color on the side from the windows back is one HUGE decal. Chris would be proud!
Now I'm laying on the Solvaset to get it to snuggle down.
4 November 2019, 19:44

Working on more decals and prepping all the props for paint.
6 November 2019, 01:16

Thanks Erik, Donald, Stephan, & Thomas!
Prepping the other side for the other large decal.
7 November 2019, 20:13

Started attaching the landing gear an realized I seriously underestimated the nose weight. I will be correcting that today. Hopefully these fine parts will be able to hold the weight.
9 November 2019, 18:44

HA! It was a small decal by your standards Chris, but it did cover the entire side of the plane.
I got the nose weight in and glued and it appears to have worked.
10 November 2019, 00:19

Old lead bullets and lead shotgun-shot from when we did our own reloading.
10 November 2019, 02:55

Thanks Neuling, Stephan, Ben & James! It was cool to see it in civilian markings after finishing the HC-97G.
17 December 2019, 22:09

Just discovered this - very nice job Nathan - looks great in the civilian colors, especially the mustard (?) yellow. Solid work on a cool plane! 👍
17 December 2019, 22:22

For some reason, this transport plane with a "face that only a mother could love" has been a favourite of mine. you really did her proud.
17 December 2019, 23:07

Slavo: Thanks! That odd yellow is what made me want to build this one. As Greg said, this one's a bit of an ugly duckling 🙂
Greg: I do love those 50s era luxury sky yachts! Thanks!
Now it's on to some projects I've been putting off, the rebuilds of some of the kits my child broke a few months back and an old Skyraider I've been trying to refurbish.
18 December 2019, 00:07

Here it is: Skyraider VA-145 | Project by Plastic Addict (1:48)
...and the other repair project:
Dornier Do335B-6 | Project by Plastic Addict (1:48)

Thanks Adam! The other one I did was a military one. It can be found here:

Nathan, How did I miss this one too? Beautiful work. Love the natural metal finish. K/r, Dutch
10 September 2022, 23:03

Thanks Dutch, Rui, and Neil 🙂
I have now built 3 of these kits even though it's an older mold and requires a little extra work. One of my favorites.
12 September 2022, 00:28

I have this one and the Pan Am markings in the stash. Seeing this pop up makes me want to do the Pan Am version. And Ive already done the C-97 version. Hmmm...
12 September 2022, 16:06

Donald, I want to build one more but can't decide between a Pan Am or Northwest Airlines livery.
17 September 2022, 00:02

Well, Im gonna do the Pan Am, so do the Northwest and we got it covered! LOL
