The nightfighter He 219 was built from the beginning of 1943 to early 1945 in around 290 expl. It saw service mainly with Nachtjagdgeschwader 1 (night fighter squadron). The << G9+AB shows the mount of Gruppenkommandeur of I. Gruppe of NJG 1.
From April 1943 to the end of war, I. Gruppe was equipped with He 219. At that time I./NJG 1 can be seen at Venlo (NL). 1944, Sep., 5th they moved to Münster-Handorf (Westphalia), 1945, Apr., 1st to Westerland/Sylt.
GrpKdr of I./NJG were Hauptmann Manfred Meurer (1943, Sep., 28th, Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub, 65 claims, KIA), Major Paul Förster (1944, Jan., killed during test flight) and Hauptmann Werner Baake (1944, Oct., 2nd to end of war, Ritterkreuz, 41 claims).
