Looking good so far, Chris.
The black ring you are referring to was painted on the test vehicles, SA-500, which both Revell and Airfix used as reference for their respective kits. If you're not accurately modelling a specific Saturn V, don't worry about it. As to your other curiosity, the real Saturn V was 363 feet (110.6 meters) tall and weighed an average of 6.3 million pounds (2.8 million kilograms) at takeoff, depending on the mission.

Thank you, Mike. That clarified a few things. As I do not want to build a specific Rocket, I agree and don't mind the painting. There are some things I learned during building, so I would have to build a second one, that woukd be more accurate. 😉

I had no problems. All the stages can still be separated and reconnected using a kind of bayonet. Of course, you shouldn't look at the kit from 5cm away - a few steps back and everything looks fine. The stand, as mentioned in the kit, does not work and the rocket would fall to the ground. That's why my Saturn stands on its engines. I've read that some of the details are off and the color scheme is wrong - that doesn't bother me: I see it as an old model kit that I always wanted to build when I was a kit aahh, a kid.
When I was a kid, I watched the Apollo 9 launch on TV and all I can remember are black and white pictures. So to me the rocket looks the way I remember it.
