If I made a suggestion, would you still speak to me. ?
I am not making any criticism of your most excellent build, but to really 'set it off' please let me say this.
There is one constant with armour that many modellers fail to do, and that is, they ignore the track and all the running gear.
The tracks are constantly in contact with the earth, and as a result, you will see 'bright steel' from the friction of that contact on every surface of the tracks, and the running wheels will always have a shiny surface from where it is in constant contact with the tracks they run on.
The tracks never have rust, as they were constantly 'on the move' and rust never formed.
If some road wheels had vulcanised rubber bonded to them, you would see great chunks torn in the rubber from where rocks and rubble would get between them.
Even after romping through mud, the tracks would be devoid of all that mud in a very short distance.
I have passed on this information as I have had first hand experience with armoured vehicles when I did my time for Queen and Country.
Cheers. 🙂

@ Kerry, Not always
(...) and the running wheels will always have a shiny surface from where it is in constant contact with the tracks they run on(...)
Photography don't evidence always that. I don't totally agree with you...

@Kerry, I´m in the hobby for 6 months now. Be sure, that i appreciate every good and helpful suggestion...and your´s one of those!! But let me say, that the surface of the tracks isn´t rust...it should look like red-brown russian earth and dust.

Well, for someone who has not been modelling for very long, I am most impressed with all of your albums and the results you have achieved.🙂
I am sorry if I gave you the impression I was commenting about there being rust on your tracks, because I was referring the fact that most tank tracks don't have any rust due to their constant use.
Your build is most impressive and your attention to weathering and that general "Wear and tare" is very well done.
My comments are meant as an observation and in no way was I finding any fault in your modelling, as that is something I avoid doing.
Please forgive me for being so blunt in my wording.
Thanks for "still talking to me" LOL. 🙂

Nice, well done Oliver. Do you know the meaning of the cyrillic words on the turret?

Excellent build here mate! As for rust on tracks there's always rust on these old Russian tracks but not on any contact area. There's a lot of crevices on the tracks that will rust after one damp night and then continue to rust, but incidently those areas is also the first ones to get caked up with mud. The cast iron used for the old Russian tracks did rust faster than you could say the word Vodka. German tracks didn't rust as fast due to them being painted from the start. But all tracks should be shiny on chevrons and other contact areas that is in constant contact with the ground or road wheels, just look at any middle road wheels rim on Panther that is in constant touch with the track tooths, a detail that many fail to recreate. Your build is quite stunning and more so considering that you've only been building for six months. The only drawback as I see it as that you used the vinyl tracks instead of the link and lenght tracks in the kit as all Russian tanks had "dead tracks" and the track sag on the link and lenght tracks in the kit is perfect.

@Rui S, I have no idea...do you?
@Urban Gardini, I made a fatal mistake with the other tracks...so I had no choice. Now I know how to deal with them 😉

Well, there's more KV-1 variants out there from Trumpy that you could build and they're quite nice models as well as you know by now.

No Oliver no idea, sorry. What intrigued me was, why did you went for a panzer grey finish with Cyrillic decals?
 18 April 2015, 13:42
Oliver Rhein Аутор
The finish is only a black-green-oil-wash and dust. There is no panzer-grey on the model 🙂 But I know what you mean. The russian green is not very shiny...it´s a really dirty tank 😉
