This build will be an intermezzo for when the atomic cannon is on hold. I bought it cheap at a village fair and decided tot upgrade the tracks. That should do.

After many afternoons all the Bronco track particles have been prepared. That means cutting away about 2000 sprue connection points. From now on it will get more interesting.

Thanks, James. It took me a while but every track part is ready for priming. Even the underhull is finished. The only downside to it are the underscale bolts in the roadwheels. I found no alternative for this type and I don't know if this wheel was still used on the newer Patton versions.

It already looks like a tank now. There is little to adjust, it's almost ready for primer.

Compared to the Atomic Gun this will be a quickie!? Maybe a suggestion; there are many sizes and sorts of nut and bolts from the Russian Brand "Masterclub". Calibre 35 is an other source but a tat expensive. But I see you already placed the wheels.

They are still dryfitted, Lex. But as you say, this will be a quickie, if you don't count the Bronco parts it could be built in a few days.

That's great, James. I wondered if there was somebody else who used them. Today I finished the kit, almost ready to paint it.

Today the tank got its Tamiya Light Sand primer. Also, the tracks are primered RAL 7016 anthracit. I used two-sided tape to fix the numerous particles to the paint stand. It appeared to be reusable for the other half part.

The exhaust and front light areas get some scratch metal detail. The track pins are primered silver, so later on I'll cover that in a rust filter to get the right result.

The painting is now really coming in an advanced state with shadowing and highlights. Plodding on with the track composition. This is already an hour's worth. As you can see, the cautiously scratched front lights were ruined during a rollover at the very end of the airbrushing session.

By the looks of it, the tracks are a major project on itself. Did you replaced the exhaust support with scratch made ones? You could'n't resist, do you : )

I never can. Now I wasted a whole day on completing only half of those tracks! I discovered that I have to cut off two auxiliary track tensioning idlers (see picture 47).

Looking back, Friul tracks would have been the better choise?
And about schratch building, for me it's the same, I always find something to improve however small it may be. For me that are the cherrys on top of the model building cake.
25 July 2016, 06:26

Friul tracks would probably be easier to assemble but not to paint, because the links would be single pieces. When this is ready, each particle will be painted right even into the seams which would be hard on vinyls. Also, the track pin holes are absent in the kit tracks because there is a molding line on the side.

Today I could benefit from a repaired airbrush to complete the first chocolate color. Some scratchwork keeps falling off though.

Thanks, Mex. I just finished that job. I used an AK Interactive filter and chipping with Vallejo grey and enamel rust colours. Then a matte varnish from Armypainter.
12 August 2016, 20:29

You're right, it is tricky, especially since I had built it one link too long...
12 August 2016, 23:55

The Patton is ready to roll. Later today I'll take some outside pictures.
15 August 2016, 23:16

Enjoy the ride, folks. When I ride my tank, all sorts of fellows join in.
16 August 2016, 19:55

Beautiful result. And that straight out the box! Nice chopper by the way.
