42-451 is the aircraft for which markings are provided in the kit

Lateral and lower camera ports added by drilling out the required holes, attaching masking tape to a piece of clear plastic, punching out the transparencies and fixing them from the inside with Kristal Klear

Struggling a bit with the cockpit; the part constituting the rudder pedal assembly is too short, and the very small pictures in the instructions not very helpful either…

Thank you for your interest, Nicolas and Moreno. More progress photos next week….

Additional information: Frowned upon by many, I use Revell Aqua paints and like them. Unfortunately, the range is not very complete. My imitation of RAF Interior Green is Revell Aqua Olive Green toned down with White. I'm quite pleased with the result (comes across a bit dark in the photos).

You wrote in the project description: "The shape of the „1" in the serial number is wrong." What is the height of the number? Should I try to cut masks?
23 January 2024, 22:07

Thanks, I may get back to you. It's 5 mm high. They cut off the upper right-hand corner of the „1" so that it is angled at 45 deg. It should be a 90 deg angle. I'm contemplating „repairing" that corner it with small section of a white stripe from TL Decals. But I'll cross that bridge when I come to it …
23 January 2024, 22:14

Hmm, 5mm is very small for a cutting plotter. Could be tried but I cannot promise anything. Maybe your decal solution will work better.
23 January 2024, 22:39

Yes, I have my doubts too, having seen what plotters can do. We will see, but many thanks for the offer nonetheless.

Don't worry about your speed Kenneth. There is no deadline. All that matters is that you are satisfied with the result and enjoy the time spend. BTW, you are much faster than I am.
So far it's locking very nice.
11 February 2024, 10:55

I don't think speed is necessarily the goal Kenneth. You are also faster than me. I hope you are enjoying yourself and, as Nicolas said, that you are happy with your result. It's looking good so far.
11 February 2024, 11:29

Many thanks, Nicolas and Jennifer! I'm definitely enjoying myself, and am pleased with the resutls!
11 February 2024, 17:38

I can only say that I totally agree with the above! Looking good 👍

Nice looking cockpit! I built the Mk.X boxing and wondered the same thing about the floor/bulkhead fit… I probably have some spare Stoppel decals if you need a '1'.
16 March 2024, 11:12

Another accuracy issue with the kit, which I only realised lately, is the rear cockpit bulkhead. Seems that KP retained the solid bulkhead from the (pressurized) PR Mk. X, which is incorrect for the (unpressurized) PR Mk. XI. Oh well 🙄

Great to see you again working on this...And... Thanks for the last comment, I never heard about this issue...
17 November 2024, 19:18

It's good that the break is over!
I think the little metal marks are ok considering that this is much smaller in real.
18 November 2024, 21:22

The chipping looks good, athough I would add a bit more to the bottom of the fuselage-side camera panel. From the pics I have seen, it looks like there is a lot of wear from loading and removing the cameras. I haven't tried the AK pencils, but have used the Prismacolour Silver before.
How do you like the PeeWit masks?
20 November 2024, 19:34

Thanks everyone. The masks were fine, haven't used those for the wheels yet though.
21 November 2024, 05:42

The model has already evolved a lot!
Too bad, the white of the decals is hardly recognizable on the light blue sheet, otherwise they could have been cut out along the red.

The first one of the three new pics is the best 👍 The second one is a bit on the bright side.
Nice result!

@Chrisswe , many thanks; indeed they did, 38 HF Mk. IXe and 3 PR Mk. XI in the period 1947-1955.
And also thank you to everybody else for the nice comments 👍

very nice spitfire.
in regards to using turpentine, that you said you may use next time, I suggest testing in some old model before trying in a almost finish one... I did used it (maybe used too much since I was using oils for weathering) and the model started to break in some points, it was not a pretty experience, I can tell you that.....
