I don't think I did a great job of the engine flaps, and I really did consider not bothering, but one thing I have learned is that I'm the only one who ever looks at the finished models, and even if someone does look, they will never see the flaws that I do!
The scheme is complex, and calls for the original camouflage to be visible through the upper wing crosses, so I painted the wings as standard and applied the crosses, which I then tried to weather a bit, pulling some of the carrier film off etc
I then added the stencils as I think most, but not all of them would be covered by the white. I didn't bother glossing since most of them will be covered anyway
A view of the PE flaps - I was very stressed about doing these as I am extremely clumsy and thoughtless most of the time, and indeed they are far from perfect and I've knocked one of them off about 3 times, but they look good enough!
Once the decals are fixed properly my next job is to mask off prior to applying the white. Since the plane is depicted in March, it needs to be grubby, so I intend to play about with a mix of White, Off-White and Neutral Grey, then apply it lightly and see how it dries before progressing any further.

I did this kit back in January 2024, and really enjoyed it. I had tried to build the Airfix FW 190 and been so frustrated with it I threw it away, so this was a revelation. I was attracted by the cover art, but knew I didn't have the skill to make a good job of that scheme, so I avoided it. However, I did dream of having a go, so I bought another kit and stuck it in the cupboard, and as time went on picked up a few extra bits, including 3D decals (with pre-painted PE), PE flaps and landing gear and a resin propeller kit. I kept putting it off as I know I am still not good enough to do the whole thing justice, but in the end I just decided what the hell, so I am uploading progress here, for my own edification if no one else's!
