Only small issues as shown on photo 8. I try to solve this with Mr surfacer. The intake ring is a little bit wider than the fuselage. Will need slme sanding. Nothing that I can't manage. The clear parts do also fit well.

Great start Christian, count me in mate, looking forward to the next pictures 👍
23 December 2014, 22:24

Does somebody know the color of the refulling probe? After studying some color photos I am jnsure. Could be a faded black or olive green.
3 February 2015, 17:10

Count me in! I've also this kit on stash and it looks already really in the box
4 February 2015, 14:16

Hello Guido,
may thanks for your very detiled research and explaination. After taking this and also the available color phptos of the aircraft into account I will give it a faded black color.
PS: The question arrised because Airfix writes in the instruction that the probe should be painted silver.
5 February 2015, 08:58

Hi Christian - thanks for kind comment on my bulid - yours looking very tasty as well - I went for black (satin) for the refuel probe including mounts as they seemed right for that aircraft at that that time - as other people have said same and things differ at later dates - also Gold was called out in instructions for undercart but again does not apply to this particular period. Its a nice colour scheme and your NFM sets it off nicely.
21 February 2015, 19:18

Ohh, what do we have here? Looks as you have fun with this build! Go Lemmy, go!
21 February 2015, 20:25

Thank's Michael, your statement encourages me that the dicission for black was the right one.
21 February 2015, 21:18

Hi Holgi, yes, it is mostly fun. This kit does not really cause problems.
21 February 2015, 21:19

Your right Holger. Built a double of two planes of the same aSquadron but different colour schemes.
22 February 2015, 08:20

Wonderful built, being eager to see more from your Lightning!
22 February 2015, 09:05

Thanks Koen.
@Roland: Meanwhile the decals are applied and the Landing gear is mounted. Have to take some pictures today and post them.
22 February 2015, 09:34

Check out this link if you havn't already - definitive photo for this model and explore complete site for more!
22 February 2015, 10:01

Thanks Michael, I know this web page. There is also a photo on page 62 of "Air Doc No.10" which shos the complete plane in 4 gun configuration without missile racks. This photo also shows olive green edges of the under belly fins and of olive green area on the top of the fin instead of black.
22 February 2015, 12:08

Thank's again Guido. After appliying the decals but before the pin wash I always apply a layer of future or Tamiyas gloss varnish as protective layer. Glossy is important becaus in case of a flat layer the wash does not run into the panel lines but spreads on the area.
Meanwhile I use ready to use Mig washes. For my purposes it is enough to use Neutral wash which is a grey tone, Dark wash wich is a dark brown and brown wash which is a red brown tone. At this model I used neutral wash for the aluminum and black surfaces and dark wash for the blue areas and some very small panel lines on the aluminium surfaces. This is my way. But you have to try and modify for your purposes.
I hope this helps. If you got more questions pleas ask again.
22 February 2015, 20:57

Try it! At the end you have to be satisfied with the result.
23 February 2015, 00:27

Danke Mike.
23 February 2015, 00:32

Just reading your reply to Guido regarding washes etc and I have a very similar system as yours - I used, sparingly, a dark grey wash to emphasis the inlets and outlets. As for the four gun option I choose to blank off the lower positions although there are photos showing these + missles but from what I researched it was one or the other but not both in operation.
23 February 2015, 09:07

Thank's Christian, Christian and Ekki.
Finished work on it 5 minutes ago and can tell you that it is nearly finished. Only the pitot tube and some small antenas are missing.
The base is also prepared yet. So I am sure that I can present the final result next week end.
23 February 2015, 22:08

It is finished. Photos will be taken next week end.
24 February 2015, 19:42

I really like the silver finish and weathering you've achieved. Very nice.
24 February 2015, 20:46

Wow, that looks perfect ! Brilliant work on the hydraulic tubing and undercarriage, scratch or etch ? Wonderful metalfinish, looks a lot bigger than
1/72nd ! 🙂
24 February 2015, 22:45

Hi Hanno,
in this case it is etched. At the T.MK4 I built it was done scratch.
25 February 2015, 05:59

The weather was fine this afternoon so I could not wait until the weekend and took some fotos of the final assembly..
25 February 2015, 22:07

Phucking nice base!!!
26 February 2015, 08:34

Absolutley BRILLIANT and 1/72 as well! You have captured that particular Lightning just right and cant fault it - having spent so much time on my 1/48 I know what to look for - well done.
26 February 2015, 08:42

26 February 2015, 09:22

I also want to build it.. unfortunately I won't succeed in doing it beautiful as yours 🙁
26 February 2015, 09:49

Awesome build! After all these pics I really want to build my Lightning, even it wont be nearly as good as yours 🙂
26 February 2015, 09:50

Thank you to all of you for your kind comments.
@Holger: Warum schnell?
@Cristian and Soeren: Try it!
26 February 2015, 11:33

Echt geil und das Diorama erst, beeindruckend! Wie halten die dünnen Stifte das Modell?
26 February 2015, 17:00

Großartig! Was für eine schöne Umsetzung dieser Diorama-Idee!
26 February 2015, 17:02

26 February 2015, 17:52

Excellent! A great scene in the only true scale...🙂 Meanwhile I`m going back to 1:72 aircraft modelling as well. So many nice 1:72 kits around these days...
26 February 2015, 19:50

That is fantastic ! Can't stop making "jet noises" when I look at that those last pictures.
26 February 2015, 20:04

@Holger: Well... Huma is great. But beside that I tried some AZ Models. Their BF-109 G-6 series is among the best that I`ve build so far in small scale. Just beautiful! Pics will follow.
26 February 2015, 20:28

I´m looking forward, you Huma addict!😢😄 And AZ, sorry i forgot!
26 February 2015, 20:53

Very nice built! I like the NMF/Blue paint sheme of No. 92 Squadron.
Nice paint finish and an effective weathered blue, Christian.
27 February 2015, 22:46

Thanks Dirk. I tried to do something like color modulation at the blue color. The rest of tge plane is not weathered that much because these plane were no so dirty
28 February 2015, 08:41

Just great, wonderful work with NMF- again: congratulations!
28 February 2015, 15:30

Thank you for your kind coments Martyn and Roland.
28 February 2015, 19:51

Awesome. Very innovative presentation of the finished result. Well done Christian.
1 March 2015, 13:28

Thank you Christian and Mats for your motivating words.
1 March 2015, 15:12

Great finish and pose! Today I was at recently opened RAF Coltishall Heritage Museum and also home of the Lightnings for a time - great visit and although not that big now housed in former Main Gate Guard House and was very good and worth a visit especially if you are a Jag Man as the the guy there was very informative especially as have been an ex-armourer there.
