Erik, you're right, it's a what if build, as are most of my models. 😉
Most people like building "real world" models, i like it too but i prefer what ifs.
Don't think that the fact that you didn't see a Gnat in the museum is proof that the PoAF had them or not, lots of it's old birds were scrapped and some types were almost forgotten...
I'd love to see their P/F-47D Thunderbolt but none of them survived, all scrapped... they even had to buy a foreign Spitfire Mk.IX and convert it to roughly represent the Mk.V they operated. They were never very worried about maintaining a legacy of what they used, but that's changing now, they've finally got PoAF staff working on restoration of old birds.
