Great lookubg metal finsh, Erik! Looking forward to seeing the finished result!
19 September 2019, 03:51

Thanks Hans, Nathan and Gordon! Finally I'm having a bit of fun with a kit. Lost interest in some other projects lately.. hopefully the mojo comes back around..!
19 September 2019, 06:05

Oh now that is NICE! Love the metal finish, very striking!
I feel ya on the mojo thing. Seems like it comes and goes for me these days. I think with fall here and winter approaching I will get back into the groove to finish out the year.

Erik, how does the metallic paint hold up to the tape being attached to it? I found that some metallic paints lose some of their reflection if you put tape on them. Therefore the base metallic color you want to use might best be sprayed as the last color, in order to avoid having to mask it partially and have the risk of tape traces on it. I also like the brilliant reflection on your F-86, I also used that on the Revell version.

Thanks Jos, Maciej, Michael and Steven!!
@Nathan, you're welcome mate 😄
@Yes Michael, the modeller friendly seasons are coming! At least in our hemisphere 🙂
@Steven, I've used AK extreme metal. Wonderful stuff, tamiya tape does not affect it at all. But to be sure I first stick it on my workbench to make the tape less tacky and so lower the risk on pulling away paint and/or leave residue
20 September 2019, 14:30

What thinner and/or cleaner are you using after spraying the AK Extreme Metal?
20 September 2019, 16:23

Thanks for the tip. I have some of the AK extreme metal paint, but no one locally has the thinner.
20 September 2019, 19:55

Hmm here in Holland it's sold at "Bouwmarkten" (hardware stores) 😄
20 September 2019, 19:56

I know of one place I'll try tomorrow in the next town over. It has always had the things I need when no one else did.
20 September 2019, 21:43

Hi Erik, that's a real top result, the AK extreme I've already tried, really ingenious simply compared to the Gunze Metal, the thinner I was a little uncertain, but Nitro or Universal is then cellulose thinner from us at the hardware store, AK goes without any primer, just brilliant stuff 🙂
22 September 2019, 18:52

Thanks Kees, Clifford and Jens!! Yes very easy stuff Jens, I even gave all my Alclad metal colours away!
23 September 2019, 16:31

Very promising looking NMF, I´ll gladly take a late seet & follow this to the finish line 👍
23 September 2019, 16:39

Count me as a late follower. I am a fan of the AK stuff as well. But I wont be giving up my Alclad. Great job so far!
25 September 2019, 21:13

I came in a little late as well but damn what a nice Cheesefighter! 👍
25 September 2019, 21:17

Thanks Slavo, Donald the 2nd, Patrick, Rafael and James!! But there's a long way to go before it's finished.
26 September 2019, 11:00

Very nice and shiny looking Cheese Chaser already, Erik. Can inmagine that this gives your mojo a boost.
28 September 2019, 21:37

Thanks Michael!! Main decals are done now. Time for the stencils
29 September 2019, 21:08

Now that is really starting to come alive with the decals Erik. This is turning out to be a real beaut'!
30 September 2019, 12:58

Never heard of Musthave before but looking into some reviews they surely live up to their name!
30 September 2019, 14:41

Beautiful work, it really looks like proper metal & getting better with the decals coming on 👍
30 September 2019, 14:46

Thanks guys for all the nice words!
@Patrick, yes they provided are very well done K fuselage which fits perfectly to the Revell D parts
30 September 2019, 15:16

Decals done now. Up to the weathering!! After I sealed the decals with aqua gloss off course 🙂
4 October 2019, 22:55

I agree. I have to admit I was eyeballing an F-86D after seeing this F-86K.
4 October 2019, 23:43

Thanks mates!
@Nathan, the ProModeller/Revell kit is a gem! You should get you one 🙂
@Patrick, Aqua gloss is from Alclad and specifically for metal paints. It does not affect the paint at all. You just get a nice transparent coat which protects the metal colours.
5 October 2019, 07:42

Let me second the recommendation for the kit. I just got a different boxing of it a few weeks ago. I did my usual test fit the fuselage and go over the parts thing. Nice fine engraved details. Seemingly good fit. Definitely a great first impression.
And awesome job Erik!
5 October 2019, 14:31

I think I need a Revell D too, to do a nice USAF Dog, a bit more colourful than the K's from the Dutch 🙂
6 October 2019, 05:38

Sadly that's true... The night fighters weren't considered 'real' fighters in those days, so they didn't get that much attention and affection.
7 October 2019, 12:48

Well it's colourful enough with those big @#$ roundels. Well done Erik!
7 October 2019, 13:14

@Patrick, but it sure was a cool time; for every job a specific aircraft type.!
@Maciej, thanks mate. 6 roundels indeed makes colorful, after October '59 this was changed to 4.
7 October 2019, 14:15

A bit of post shading with Gunze Smoke. De F-86 will be finished soon 🙂
20 October 2019, 20:17

Well Erik in the Hellenic Airforce there is a variety on the number of roundels depending one the era of the jet and its country of origin. Greek Mirages have six roundels plus two rectangles on the fin. Our F-16s have 2 (!) plus the rectangles on the fin. All older planes, that is from Phantoms and Corsairs and back had 6 roundels plus the two fin rectangles. Even the AUP Phantoms have 6 roundels I plus the two fin rectangles. Who needs standardisation...
20 October 2019, 20:52

That shading makes it look even better. That's some lovely work Erik.
21 October 2019, 13:35

Thanks mates!!
@Maciej, I think the Greek Mirages are painted in France. They look very similar to French Mirages
21 October 2019, 21:48

Douze points voor deze chasseur de fromage. Exceptionally and an inspiring piece off modeling, Erik.
28 October 2019, 18:54

I saw him yesterday at our Ipms chapter meeting and it, s a really stunning looking build. I hope to achieve a simular result with my special hobby 1/72 version.
Fantastic job and to our next meeting.
4 December 2019, 08:37

Thanks Marcel! It was nice meeting you again! See you January 7th
4 December 2019, 16:48

Happy again, my second model in Model Aircraft magazine 🙂
19 May 2020, 07:13

Great job Erik! I purchased a F-86D after seeing this build. Inspiring work.
19 May 2020, 11:49

Thanks Nathan. It's a great kit. Proper fit and nice details, you will have fun building it. And a lot colourful USAF options to choose from, the Dutch K's were a bit dull 🙂
19 May 2020, 11:53

Darn it! Now I have to order that magazine again! 🙁 😉 Great job Erik! 👍
20 May 2020, 19:58

Congratulations Erik fantastic job, great achievement and well deserved.
