The DN-V Buffalo is a Mexican development based on the LAV-150 and the M8 Scott 75mm HMC. Back in the 1980s the Mexican Army started a program aimed to replace their aging inventory of WWII-era armored vehicles with indigenous designs. The DN-III and the DN-V were based on the LAV-150 and are very similar indeed. Nevertheless, there are obvious external differences that account for a national fabrication. Once the M5 Stuart and the M8 Scott were retired from service the Mexican army was depleted of any armored artillery, so a replacement was immediately adopted by installing the M8 turret (with the 75mm pack howitzer) on top of a few DN-V resulting in a somewhat awkward-looking vehicle named "Buffalo". To date, it remains as the sole self-propelled artillery in Mexico's armed forces and most likely in Latin-America.
