The *Big Beautiful Doll* is one of the most iconic P-51D Mustangs of World War II, famously flown by Colonel John D. Landers of the 78th Fighter Group, 8th Air Force. With its polished silver fuselage, bold black-and-white invasion stripes, checkerboard nose, and distinctive red lettering, this Mustang wasn’t just deadly — it had serious style.
Armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and powered by the legendary Packard-built Merlin engine, *Big Beautiful Doll* was built for speed, range, and power. It escorted bombers deep into enemy territory and racked up an impressive combat record. Today, it remains one of the most recognized and beloved warbirds, symbolizing both American air superiority and a pilot’s pride in his plane.

Don Oberempt FörfattareThis was a fun build. First model after a very long hiatus. Few things that did not go well. 1. The pin wash was put on BEFORE the gloss finish, so therefore, it soaked into the base coat and I could not remove. So, nasty panel lines. 2. I forgot to put the red WZ decal before the white WZ, so that is wrong. 3. The checkerboard decal on the nose was not cooperating and I did not get it to wrap correctly. Other little nasties that are nothing more than trying to get my mojo to go as i get back into the hobby. All in All, I love the subject and will maybe do another down the road when my skill set improves. Thanks!
