i had similar problems with the aires cockpit and wheel bay in my hasegawa 1/48 F-4J.. it is basically a question of sanding more than you think you should because it starts to look transparent.... i drilled a hole under the ejection seat to see how think the bottom still was... it seems transparent when it is thik to keep sanding. anyway your cockpit looks quite good as it is now

The thing is that Aires designs it's update sets to the original drawings whereas the kit is designed with a certain wall thickness making fabrication in plastic possible. To fit those differently designed parts together can result in these kind of problems. Furthermore keep in mind that the original aircraft are made out of sheet aluminum with aluminum stringers. In real life extremely strong for it's weight. In a certain scale that sheet aluminum is paper thin and very brittle. If we strife for 'scale thickness' this is the price to pay.

So getting the Resin pit from Aires to fit properly and having enough to mount the front undercarriage is not happening. I have been working on it all week and decided that its time to make a decision. Rather than lose my mojo completely I decided toques the kit parts and the Eduard PE. I primed the whole pit with Alclad II Black Primer and Microfiller and I used Alcad II MIL-SPEC Medium Sea Grey for the top coat. This on top of the black made it a great match for the coloured PE.
