I got my first kit when I was about 12 years old. It was the "German SS Infantry "Russia 1944" (4 figures)" kit. I glued it with patex and painted it with oil based humbrol. It looked like badly painted cheap toysoldiers. Then I got my first tank: the hetzer from Italeri. I bought a grasscarpet and some decorationmoss and my first diorama was born. I played with it until everything fell apart. What did I know...
I immediately saw it big too. I bought a shelf of 2m40 by 50 and wanted to build D-day. I was obsessed with the landing scene of Saving Private Ryan. I constructed the seawall with epoxyfoam and builded bunkers with clay. My dad helped me create the sea with hotmelt... It was terrible, but thanks for the effort dad?... The kits I needed where out of stock. Frustrated and unpatiently I converted it to another scene, but was allways musing to make D-day once again. Full of conviction I started to practice my skills with the aim to reach a skillset to be able to make a convincing "Omaha Beach" scenery.
Now, 20 years later I focus on building sceneries of 30cm x 40cm. I'm most interested in the german military side of WW2 and find myself dedicated to the historical correctness or probability of the combination between vehicles, troops, environment and season. I do a lot of research before drafting a scene. always try to ad a tension too, some drama that is about to happen or has happened. I don't like it too static. A nice paintjob is only half the potential of modelmaking in my opinion.
Trying to keep the balance between work - family-hobby, one scenery per year is an accomplishment.
