I would rather have a decent but relatively affordable 1/12 kit made by someone, maybe Meng.

Back in the world of sensibility, I agree with you. ITALERI seem to be making some super 1/12th scale cars; I've two in my stash waiting their time to be done (the Grand Prix Fiat & Mephistopheles). Mooching through the boxes, I was pleased with what I saw.
