March 19, 2024On both planes, I gave them an oil wash to bring out the panel lines. Afterward, I sprayed a matte finish then added the gunpowder streaks where the guns were. (I'm still new to using oil paints for weathering and other effects but I enjoyed using it). Lastly, I used a sponge with some silver paint on it to add a chipping paint effect, I like how it looks on the wings but not so much on the side of the fuselage. Mainly did not want to overdo it.2
March 19, 2024The canopy I did my best to paint by brush, I was going to mask it and spray paint it but it was so small that it would have been an incredibly tedious, time-consuming, patience enduring task that I did not want to do. Also, no matter how hard I try, I somehow accidentally break off the antenna every time. (Even the one on the left wing and the 3 of the landing gears!)3
March 19, 2024This was a fun kit and a side project from my main that I'm working on. So I did not go into too much detail or accuracy of the models. I used this as an opportunity to try out some new things like painting on most of the markings. I will admit I did get lazy and did not add all the small decals such as the propellers.4
March 19, 2024The decals were brittle and broke when I was applying them and then part of it came off when handling the plane. I added some chipping with a sponge to not make it look so bad.5

March 19, 2024I did not care for the kit decals or camouflage scheme, so I painted them in the marking of the Akagi and Soryu carriers. Only thing I couldn't do was make a mask of the correct tail codes, so I just used the kit decals.7
