Dune - Spice Harvester & Ornithopter - In progress
1
October 13, 2024Ornithopter glued together, there are very few parts at this scale. Once the glue cured, I started with a layer of black Mr. Surfacer, followed by Gunze Gun Metal base and finished with a layer of diluted AK Acrylics Brass coat. I want to achieve that golden-ish shine visible in some of the movie shots, hope it won't be lost completely under the heavy sand weathering it will be getting next 😉.2

October 13, 2024This is more or less the look that I'd like to achieve.5
October 13, 2024Second patient on the table, again very few parts to be glued together (except for the 16 sets of tracks, each of them consisting of 4 separate parts 😠). Painting started with a layer of black Mr. Surfacer again and top coat of Gunze Gun Metal. The sand weathering orgy can start now 😄6
October 13, 2024Underside, not much going on here.7
October 13, 2024I keep the spice extractor and the track parts separately for easier painting & weathering process.8
October 13, 2024And this is what I'd like it to look at the end...9
October 18, 2024Ornithopter is finished, it got treated by sand and brown washes plus a finishing touch of pastels/chalks. I'm happy how the shiny base pops out of the dirt here and there under day light, it's not as prominent as it seems on the close-up shots.10
