What do you do when there isn't a plastic kit of a subject you want? You do what the auto modelers did in the old days- you disassemble an existing model and rebuild it the way you want it! This 1:27(ish) scale Maisto diecast started out as an STX, which is a middle trim level. I wanted the base-model XL. So I went with the gray painted bumpers and grille surround (chrome bumpers are an option on the XL). I also filled in the fog lights, again, those are optional on the XL, and I wanted this to look as "base model" as possible. Revell supplies the incorrect wheels with their Ford Expedition SSV kit. They include a six-bolt wheel design which won't fit a '97-'02 Expedition. Be that as it may, those wheels (and tires) are perfect for a 2010 XL. I cut out the center console and made a center bucket seat from 1/8" ABS sheet. A coat of Ford's timeless Oxford White finishes it off. The blue truck in the last photo is the exact same model I started with.
