Already cringing at the amount of gaps i'm going to have to fill...
7 March 2019, 13:58

Welcome aboard! Hope I can manage this one ok... it's certainly not a Hasegawa kit.
7 March 2019, 14:33

Glad to have you here! Need to paint and assemble the cockpit next...
7 March 2019, 15:45

Well Katya, you gained a lot of experience with those previous builds, I'm fully confident you can turn this Putty Queen into a masterpiece as well! 👍
7 March 2019, 20:48

No idea where I will put models though, I had another shelf to put up but turns out there's a steel beam in the wall that means I can't put it there, and there's literally no other place to put a shelf... I might actually be stuck this time. 🙁
7 March 2019, 22:23

Assembly of the back part of the aircraft is nearly done, and I just finished the cockpit. 🙂 I love it when the decals work properly.
8 March 2019, 10:57

I think that's the gaps filled, next i'll need to build the canopy opening assembly that goes behind the seat, and mask the canopy itself.
9 March 2019, 08:26

I'm hoping it will look ok once it is painted, the filling is not quite as neat as I would like.
Honestly though I built a Hasegawa Tigershark kit from the 70s and the fit was better than this kit which is from 2018!
9 March 2019, 08:47

Despite being a reasonably good fit, the canopy was a bit of a pain to get on (it kept popping up) but I got it on in the end.
Also, look at all of these pointy things!
9 March 2019, 12:25

For once the doors were a perfect fit!
Also trying to decide on the weapons loadout for this...
9 March 2019, 15:13

Thats always nice when you dont have to mess with the doors too much. Considering it never actually got beyond prototype, you can hang anything you like. I think what the cover art shows is pretty good.
9 March 2019, 16:44

I have no patience and a not very good attention span Bob... I don't think I could ever do one of those huge month long projects.
9 March 2019, 19:38

Shocking to see this kit fit is so poor. Thought it was AFV club F-5E quality. Good luck with it Katya 👍
10 March 2019, 10:39

Thanks! I actually wondered at one point if I would have been better off getting the old Monogram kit. Part of the problem with this one is the way it goes together, especially around the intakes...
10 March 2019, 10:50

There was a series of disasters, but I was able to fix most of the damage. However I am now in the dilemma of having run out of masking tape, so I am unable to continue.
10 March 2019, 17:55

I dont know what you have available, but the blue painters tape also works fairly well.
11 March 2019, 01:36

Really nice paintjob and build Katya!
Great progress of skills keep it up👍
11 March 2019, 06:49

I don't have any tape at all except regular masking tape, and i'm not trying that on a model again. I did order some new Tamiya stuff but that was over a week ago, and it hasn't been dispatched yet... 🙁
Thank you everyone though!
11 March 2019, 07:50

Yes, that Tamiya tape is specially designed for masking models. Don't risk ruining your finish by rushing.
11 March 2019, 13:17

I ordered a roll of 6mm on eBay, hopefully it should be here on Thursday.
11 March 2019, 13:41

Looking good, will it have some cool markings on the tail? Look forward to seeing progress
11 March 2019, 21:06

I'm not sure about the tail yet. I have some tail insigna and numbers left over from the 1/48 F-104J I did, but I don't know if they will fit.
12 March 2019, 07:19

You should try and get hold of some decals for the JASDF Mitsubishi F-2 (F-16 thingy) as there's some great tail art schemes. Hasegawa have done various boxings, perhaps someone has spare decals? Good luck whatever you do
12 March 2019, 18:23

The F-2 is beautiful, and I nearly ordered a kit of it, but I just didn't think I could do it justice, especially the camo. Maybe if I ever manage to find some pre-cut masks for it...
I suppose I could have a look for F-2 decals yes, but I worry they might be a bit large, since the F-2 is much bigger than the F-20.
12 March 2019, 20:33

Painting the hardpoints and drop tanks since I don't need tape for those (at least not yet).
13 March 2019, 11:07

Hardpoints and drop tanks, and the fins for the Sparrows painted, also some tape arrived, so now I can continue with the camo! 🙂
13 March 2019, 13:11

It's a little rough around the edges, but my masking idea worked! That just leaves the camo on the stabilators to paint. ^-^
14 March 2019, 10:28

The camouflage is done! Now just got a few details to finish off. ^-^
14 March 2019, 11:32

Finished painting the plane! Next I can start on the first clear coat. 🙂
14 March 2019, 17:30

Just to show, I got the clear coat on and it's made the colours darken to a lovely shade, so no more overly turquoise blue!
14 March 2019, 20:22

Decals are all done, going to let them dry for now and do the last clear coat once I get back from work. Once that's out the way I just have to finish off the ordnance.
15 March 2019, 10:51

Soooo close now, the plane itself is done, just finishing off the ordnance.
15 March 2019, 18:11

Thanks! I was able to use decals leftover from my F-104J, so it has an actual JASDF number and tail emblem. 🙂
15 March 2019, 18:30

Nice work, you have been quite busy lately with all your builds. I see you are mastering that airbrush! Keep going with the good work.
15 March 2019, 18:41

Thank you. 🙂
Going to be doing a 1/48 Su-11 next, providing my canopy masks arrive. Back to the bare aluminium i'm used to, hehe.
