This Falklands War build is the Mirage flown by the Argentine airforce to protect the A-4 Skyhawk strike force from the patrolling Sea Harriers (SHAR), although they were also free to take on the British Task Force themselves, if there were no covering SHAR. This is not actually, however, a Mirage , it’s an Israeli Nesher copy of a Dassault Mirage 5 sold to Argentina and rebadged a Dagger!
This 1:72 scale model kit, from the lesser known Turkish company PM Model, was probably one of the simplest and least detailed builds I've encountered. Rather than completing it in the Israeli Air Force colours suggested, I used a set of Xtradecal Falklands War decals and camouflage design of the Argentine FAA Dagger C-401 flown by Lt Jorge Ratti as based at Rio Grande, Argentina. On 8th June 1982, Ratti in C-401, took part in the bombing of HMS Sheffield. While HMS Sheffield went on to fight another day, this action led to the SHAR protection over the landing ships, Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram, loaded with troops for the retaking of the Falkland Islands, from being diverted in futile hot pursuit of the fleeing Daggers, allowing the Skyhawk free airspace in which to attack the undefended landing ships, with well documented results!
