I see some nice and subtle paint flaking/wear effects with metal shining through, was that made with weathering pens perhaps?

@treehugger. No pencils used. Plain very dry brushing and fine brush strokes with rusty colors. Rust pigments are also used. I did some chipping with a spunge.
