Cast surface simulated by good old stippling method. I used Mr. Surfacer 500 for this job. Cast numbers are then glued simply.

Behind the scenes: how the cast number was created. I used a flat type scalpel to carve off the sprue numbers. Then these numbers were glued to the casted surface. Kind of easy but entertaining process.

Some texturing on the lower glacis crested by dilluted putty. The tow eyelets are kitbashed from Miniart PzIV kit.

Again some texture on the rolled steel surfaces. The commander cupola is from Miniart BzBeowg IV.

Ah, and here comes the zimmerit. Used my Tamiya zimmerit maker and a water based putty. My first ever zimmerit, at the age of 44. Lost my virginity 🙂

Exhaust muffler found to be short. Added a few mm of epoxy putty.

After some primer looks a bit worn and dent, but okay for me.

MG shield after some upgrades. Used PS sheet and stretched sprue. Yes, that ugly ejector pin mark is filled with putty.

Zimmerit everywhere. The rolled steel texture is gone. Mention here the old Eduard PE fenders I found in my stash. Front plate rivets are scraped off from another ancient kit part I found. Think it was from a StugIII kit.

Schurzen is created from styrol sheets.
The railing is scratch made, based on the original Tamiya design. Not sure it is fully accurate, but way more thinner than the injection molded version was.

Tools from a Miniart Pz IV. kit added. Also some spare track links from an old Dragon kit.

Muffler painted. I used the "Night shift" method this time. Grey paint, then adding white and black chips with sponge (aka texturing). Then two soaking layers of rusty brown enamel wash.

Primer was GSI Creos oxide red applied by airbrush. Then AK Real color Dunkelgelb was applied in several thin coats. Then highlights added by tiny pointy brush with acrylics. Shadows are made with enamel washes.

Okay, Mr. Mistake here. I was using GSI oxide red paint dilluted with alcohol as a primer. Then several thin layers of Vallejo water based acrylics. Even the distance between the two layers were weeks, the primer's thinner was strong still enough to damage the cover paint, causing these cracks. Unfixable...

After soaking the side skirt plates in alcohol. A fresh start.

Skirts on port (left) side after repaint and chipping. This time I was using fully acrylic paints as primer (hull red from AK 3rd gen) then Dark yellow (from Vallejo Air range) as finishing color.
Color modulation and light chips were mixed from the shown shades before.
Dark chipping is a dark chocolate brown shade from AK (AK711), applied with pointed brush and sponge.
The front element is missing, just like on the reference picture I have from this unit.

Skirts on starboard (right) side. Similar then the other side. Here I decided to 'lose' the middle panel to add some variety and have some eye candy to see the muddy chassis behind.

Album info

This is the ancient Tamiya kit I purchased for almost bargain prices...
Also the motivation was to re-use a lot of my leftovers
-Dragon spare tracks
-Miniart tools and other bits I had from a Panzer IV AusfJ kit
-Eduard PE set (intended for Tamiya Pz IV AusfH early kit)

Since then I purchased an RFM individual track set from one of my friends (he used Friul or something else for his RFM kit).

So what can go wrong? Let's jump into this assault gun!
