Sdkfz 234/3 Stummel wip

December 23, 2024So it begins. Could not whitstand and opened the box after the Black friday purchase...
Miniart standards inside: too many particles to be chopped off from different sprues. 60 percent of the job will be invisible at the end.
But the build flow is cool, I enjoy every single minute.2
December 25, 2024Since my bench is occupied, I'm using the kitchen table for the hobby. Even during Xmas3
December 31, 2024The bottom half getting crowded. What you don't see is the suspension. That was boring to build...4
December 31, 2024The top half received the armor plates from 0.3mm styrene sheet. Way more thinner than the injection molded.5
December 31, 2024Variety of wheels. I used a mix from RFM 3D printed versions (road wheel and terrain wheel), also assembled a few from Miniart (also road wheel pattern). The spare wheel is from Miniart, the terrain pattern.6
December 31, 2024Here are all nine, more visual on pattern differences. I also played with the tyre colors. Different makers might used different compounds?7
December 31, 2024Painted the fighting compartment and used some acrylic washes for weathering. Used AK 3rd gen 'cremeweiss' as basecoat.
Washes are from Vallejo (gray, fresh mud, dirt).8
December 31, 2024After placing the top half: not too much will be visible at the end.9
January 5, 2025The bottom part of the fighting compartment got some progress today.
I added the ammo holder, the seats and the gasmask canisters. Also added some chipping where I imagine crew would have danced. The unused driver seat is folded to save space.10
January 5, 2025The driver seat. Will not be visible after completing the model. On his right (left on photo) the battery pack is present, without the cables. I might consider leave it off completely, as it will be hidden.11
January 5, 2025And the top part. I added the PE-parts and the radio today.12
January 18, 2025I added a tent (zeltbahn) to the fighting compartment.
Here is my technic for today:
1) print out the triangles (real size is 2m on each sides) with a color printer (I used regular office paper)
2) use Papershaper to achieve the desired folds
3) add a layer of Plasticator
4) use acrylics to touch up where print is damaged (at the folds usually)13
January 18, 2025To make it more lifelike, decided to place a wooden crate behind the driver's seat. Then I dropped spent cartridges into it. Also added a bottle in armreach distance to the driver. Maybe the cold weather inspired the crew to consume some alcohol... Steering wheels are placed today as well.
