January 13, 2025For the engine deck I added a fairly subtle cast steel texture with tamiya putty mixed with some extra thin cement.
I also replaced the molded lifting handles for the louvers with ones made of bent copper wires. The existing handles are fine but because they are modeled as one part with the ventilation slats, they extend very deep into the grills. It's a small and trivial detail but I wanted to try some new skills.
The process was simple but time consuming: carve out the molded handle with a hobby blade and a small chisel, smooth with sanding sponge and tamiya cement, then super glue in a copper replacement bent around a pair of tweezers.
I accidentally damaged one of the handles on the middle of the deck so had to replace it as well. I'll be making the hinge portion by bending a lead strip over it. After taking this picture I reshaped and rearranged the new handles slightly. To add some variety I flipped one handle up.
I also sanded down some of the details on the louvers to be more in scale.2
January 13, 2025For the turret I used the same casting texture method mostly to put texture back after sanding most of it off to get the two pieces to fit together smoothly. A casting seem mark was added with tamiya 2-part epoxy putty. This part is somewhat out of scale and rather imperfect but by the time I realized the extent of the problem the epoxy was fully cured. I may still revise it
