Hello,
Here are a few photos of my latest build: the Airfix Gannet in 1/48 scale.
It's a big model, in the sense that it has a lot of parts.
This is partly due to the fact that Airfix gives you the option to display the wings folded (and the flaps retracted or extended).
It's true that this aircraft is particularly ugly, but strangely enough, that's kind of what motivated me to build this kit.
The level of detail is quite good, and the panel lines are neither too fine nor too heavy.
The fit is good and doesn’t present any major difficulties.
In terms of construction, the biggest challenge was assembling the folded wings: despite all my efforts, I wasn’t able to achieve perfect symmetry or proper alignment of the outer surfaces.
As for nose weight, the instructions recommend 12 grams in part A6 and 55 grams under the cockpit (Step 23 of the manual), but I think that’s not enough.
Despite all the weight I added, my model still sits nose-up. So don’t hesitate to pack as much weight as possible into the available space in the nose.
Between the large number of parts and the masking required for the Suez campaign paint scheme, the build ended up being quite long.
