This model represents a F-14D in a CAP or interceptor role, armed in the "2x2x2" configuration. The F-14D primarily guarded the USS Carl Vinson battle group from aerial attack, but could also assist with enforcement of the southern no-fly zone. F-14Ds from the USS Carl Vinson escorted USAF B-52H bombers during Operation Desert Strike.
