Watching! Have the same kit (also the puzzle edition) in my stash.
This engine seems to be a good match? Gnome 7 Omega (50 hp) Engine (Small Stuff 48105, 1:48)
And SM has nice walk arounds attached to the topic.

Ah, thank you, bughunter, and welcome, Alex. I will go hunting for pictures of other Deperdussins with the cowling. I think I will cut a semicircle of thin plastic for the back, and form a strip of brass to make the curved part. Here is the patent for the "Emailite" dope which the KNIL required Léon de Brouckère to use to finish the aircraft: patents.google.com/p..ISH+EMAILLITE+Co+Ltd

If I can suggest something with respect to spoked wheels, Ben - try to find gaskets of the adequate diameter. I used them with my scratchbuilds: Scratchbuilding attempts | Album by podkon

Goodness, plenty of challenges here! Looks like the front row is filling up, so I'll squeeze in behind 🙂

I found some 3D printed World War 1 type of wheels from a company in Greece. If you are interested, I can forward the information to you.

May be the Gaspatch (comes from Greek) ones are meant?
Palmer 700x75 Spoked Wheels (GasPatch Models 19-48222, 1:48)
But that is a British type late of war, with may spokes.
27 June 2023, 12:33

The company is called GasPatch models.
I purchased mine for a Life-Like kit of the Avro Triplane. Because the plane has a four wheel landing gear, I had to purchase two sets. Each set includes two wheels and two tires.
The set that I purchased is listed as Palmer 700 X 75 spoked wheels.
This kit is on my "to-do" list, but when I saw the pictures on line, I decided that if I was going to build it, I wasn't going to settle for the kit wheels.

Oh yes 👍
BTW, why the pic 7 correct in the Newsfeed, but rotated in album view?!?

Next I need to scratch a cowling for the engine; the kit version doesn't have one, but the pva-knil aircraft did.

I rigged the left side elevator and then realized the rudder rigging will have to go inboard of it. Maybe should have used thicker line to make it stand out more but I think this is closer to scale. But the model itself is so coarse it's hard to say.
19 May 2024, 12:57

The rigging is basically invisible, so I tried a white background. I wonder why I'm bothering with something I can't see 😂

Hi Ben very interested in this one! I've been away for a while and missed this one. Great progress! Always nice to see KNIL subject

Nothing is straight on this model. The resin engine was a bit beyond my skillset, I was not able to get the little spigots on the block for the valve rods to go in place. I object to it being stone age. It came out the year I was born. It took me two years to complete it, a measure of how chaotic my life has been and how little time I have had to work on things. First time I tried painting ribs. A bit crude, unfortunately, I think. Also first time I painted insignia instead of using decals.
25 May 2024, 23:02

Thank you kind people. I wasn't happy with the pilot figure in the kit, so I opted against one. The build was interesting in that I got to try so many new things. Also it was the first time I worked with CA accelerator.
One thing I need to find a way to do better is painting ribs. The 1mm tamiya tape produced a result that's a bit too coarse. I can't imagine using finer tape so I'll have to come up with a different approach.
26 May 2024, 11:32

A possible solution would be to mask each side of the rib with photo frisket to give you a line to paint or the vinyl type of Tamiya tape may give you a crisper line. If I ever build my Avro Triplane, I will let you know what works for me.😎

Great work all around 👍
May be a bit late: Regarding the engine, have you checked out the full build guide linked in the manual? It gives some nice hints.
28 May 2024, 19:19

Hi bughunter, yes I did. Unfortunately my eyesight and hand tremors appear to be the limiting factors. Maybe with more practice I will improve.
28 May 2024, 20:32

Absolutely stunning! I loved the careful and methodical process to get the color effects right. The rigging is flawless - which is an art form in its own right. ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! I learned a lot about rigging from Elias K while building an earlier model, and bughunter gave me several tips on this model. While it's far from perfect, it was very enjoyable, and I'm happy with the result.
