Panavia Tornado IDS - JaboG33 - Luftwaffe - 2019

So I made this big mistake of starting my 10th Tornado...and there's no way back I am afraid.
This disaster happened because I accidentally and finally managed to find the resin Airwaves wings with the deployed slats and flaps (after 5 years of search).

I decided to recreate the upgraded Tornado IDS 45+92, which is seen here deployed in Incirlik (Turkey) against ISIS in 2019. The German Tornados of AG51 and JaBoG33 did (to my knowledge) only recoinassance/surveillance missions during their deployment to Incirlik. Nevertheless, I decided for a different equipment set for my model aimed for ground attack. 

For the equipment I decided for two IRIS-T missiles, one GBU-24 (the big one here), one Litening Pod, all seen so far on the Tornado further away.
For the wing pylons there will be two fuel tanks and and two Chaff-dispencers (as seen on the Tornado closer to the camera) 

And this is how the Revell kit looks like more or less. The molds got quite old in the mean time, plenty of flash and sinkholes. In some parts the details have dissapeared from large surfaces (air intakes - upper side, fuselage - underside beneath the cockpit or rear-lateral behind wings) 

And another improvement, the nose!

One of the annoying elements of the Revell kit is the nose. The kit's nose is represented as a cone, while the real aicraft is showing some sort of bulge at the transition to the fuselage, one of the defining features of the Tornado.

This is the first time I will be using this correction.  

It's not entirely obvious in this picture if there is any difference at all. I would even say that both parts have the exact same shape, but maybe the full effect is noticed only after the assembly with the fuselage. 

The Aires Tornado IDS cockpit is just superb. There really isn't anything negative I can say about it.

The fit is close to perfect as well.
The plastic interior from the Revell kit is really good, but this Aires set brings superb quality when completely assembeld. 

The resin parts for the cockpit were cleaned. Here's another try at dry fitting.

I forgot to mention, that the contact surface with the nose landing gear bay needs extensive sanding, after which both the landing gear bay and the resin cockpit floor are close to transparent. 

And with the cockpit closed (dry fitting only): it fits very well and the details are looking fantastic! 

And the reason I resurrected this project: these resin wings with open slats and flaps.
They were unavailable and not to be found several years. Purely accidentally I found them on Aerospezial - Modellbauversand.

I had read some reviews in the past where people complained that the wings were contorted for some reason. I didn't have this problem luckily. I guess it also depends on how they were stored by the seller/shop (heat + weight stacked on top?).

These parts are originally meant for the Hasegawa kit and I have no idea yet how well they will be fitting to the Revell kit. 

As I was partially expecting, full of flash, even in the delicate area of the flaps, where it's not going to be easy to clean up all the mess.
 

The resin wings are not that detailed either. Here's a comparison with the kit's wings (above).
I will rescribe most of the missing elements to the resin wings as well (except the hinges for the spoilers, there is a risk of ruining the resin wings)

Overall there are only minor differences in size/geometry between the two, so no negative points on that chapter.

LATER EDIT: the resin wings are 1mm thinner leaving some ugly gap in the fuselage 

And this is how the resin wings (meant for the Hasegawa kit) are fitting to the Revell kit.

The rubber wing gloves (from the resin part) will be removed completely, but the bigger issue here is the thickness: the resin wings are 1mm thinner than the Revell fuselage. There isn't much to do here other than filling the gap with some putty and accept it as it is.
