USS Essex (CV-9) - May 1943

This model is of the Essex “as built” as it arrived in Pearl Harbor before the first changes were made to its radar rig, and hull numbers were added to the flight deck. The aircraft are in early 1943 colors, carried over from 1942, but with the interim "four place" markings.
