What are some good sources for general material supplies such as thin PS sheets for making custom parts, etc. Are there any tips to saving materials from your garbage that make for great modeling materials?

Edit: are there any good youtube channels that showcase a lot of customization/fabrication?

Pretty much everything I throw out I look at and think if it may possibly have a scratch building use. In the past I've used metal foil take-away containers; plastic packaging, old pen parts, wire from earphones; syringe parts; handles from old paint brushes; aluminium from drink cans; old credit cards etc...
I find it easiest to buy plastic sheets because the quality is much better than packaging.

I just got back into scale models after over 20 years since the last one I made. I'm mostly interested in some good classic muscle cars but am really only seeing those with the Revell and AMT brands. Problem is, I'm not finding Revell to have the best fitting parts, and let's just say I'll be spending HOURS cleaning all the flashing off the AMT models... Are there any suggestions out there for good quality, good fitting classic american muscle?
