Hello all. I am looking for a Hercules 1/144 model kit. The only one I have found so far is the Academy kit (1/144 C-130J-30 Super Hercules, 1999-present 1263). I have no experience of Academy kits and there seem to be no reviews on here. It's a relatively cheap kit so I am wondering it is really old and basic. Judging by the instructions I have downloaded, it seems fairly basic.
Does anyone have experience of this kit or Academy kits in general? TIA.

No idea. I am guessing any Academy Hercules kits, are re-branded kits from older molds, from Minicraft. I think Hasegawa has some 1:200 kits, but different scale, and might be mostly Japanese stuff.

Yes, the Hercules is a re-boxed Minicraft kit. I think I will probably buy one and find out. It's only about £21.

If the panel lines are nasty like some Airfix kits (too large) you can always try spend a little time filling in the panel lines with putty.

There a few 1/144 Hercules but most of them are either old kits or by companies which produce short-run kits that may not be the best quality. If you can wait it looks like Great Wall Hobby are due to release one this year and they usually are excellent kit - although not cheap.

He must be referring to this I think: C-130H Hercules (Great Wall Hobby , 1:144)

Thanks for the information. The other alternative available at the moment is the Zvezda one in 1/72. I haven't quite made my mind up yet about Zvezda. I am currently building their Airbus A320 which is not particularly problematic but the instructions are a little confusing. I have also noticed that the plastic seems very soft and prone to roughness if you snag it in the slightest. The fit is not bad though. Flight deck detail is basic but on the other hand you can't see much of it.

The Zvezda kit is 1/72. Incidentally I know someone who is currently building the 1/72 Zevezda, Airfix and Italeri if you are interested:

Hehe I have an A380 in 1:144 scale, it is huge. I try to avoid 1:72 cargo planes as I think they are too large for my shelf space. 🙂 I eventually opened up for 1:700 ships, being smaller thant the 1:350 variant.

I will likely get a couple of those GWH 1:144 Hercules kits, if the price isn't horrid.

I plan to build an A380 in 1/144 too. The trouble is that my 320 is in EasyJet Neo livery which is a pig to paint. I also have to get it right because my son flies them and will spot any discrepancies 🙂
Getting the correct orange is proving to be a trial.

Oh, and I fancy a 1/350 ship but I don't like the prices ☹️
