Anyone know if these diorama bases have been bought by another company and reissued since Verlinden folded? Its sad, I have a lot of their 1/35 detail sets and what I think is a copied resin street corner. There are some out of print bases on ebay but they cost a small fortune.

unless I am mistaken, when he closed the businesses, all was destroyed or discarded and nobody took it over. of course, somebody maybe making copies of existing sets. what you see I ebay, in principle are "collector items" and tend to be, as you say quite expensive. I have found sometimes items in modelling events for reasonable prices, but the are less and less available.....

The street itself is doable without it costing the earth. Have a look at Bughunters street:

The foam and cutters can be bought quite cheaply online. Even the walls of the building might be possible with thin foam sheet.
I've also done cobbled street in smaller scales which worked out free, using insulation foam which had been discarded by a neighbour. It can be cut and sanded without the need for specialist tools, although recreating this Verlinden scene, Bughunters way would be the best.

Its ingenious how bug made that little square paint stick tool to cut into the surface and make tiles. amazing.

You can also get the same effect from using a square section tube like photo 28 in one of my albums:

Uncle nightshift has some videos on making bases entirely out of styrofoam board. He makes roads, houses, etc. very low cost and doesn't require a lot of fancy tooling.
