Album info
This model represents the F-16A Air Defense Fighter variant flown by the 198th FS of the Puerto Rico Air National Guard. The 198th FS deployed to Patrick AFB in 1996 to protect civil aircraft flying in the Florida Strait in the aftermath of the Cuban Air Force shooting down a private Cessna 337. Normally F-16s flying out of Homestead AFB, Florida would perform this mission, but it had been devastated by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and had not yet been restored to operational status. The 198th FS again deployed to Patrick AFB in 1998 to escape the path of Hurricane Georges and protect their F-16s from damage.
